Hello My Dear Teaching Aspirant,

Firstly since I am also into teaching for some years now and also into career counselling for more than seven years now, I personally felt happy to see your career query and your aspiration to become a teacher. I really appreciate your thought of becoming a teacher where all the rest of the world is running behind behind sacrificing their many life aspects.

Inspite of being at a tender education level of HSC, you have already made up your mind to be a teacher which is a fantastic thing and worth commendable!

BTC:

According to me and my internet search, for appearing for the BTC exam to get qualified as a teacher, one needs to be a graduate first with minimum 50% marks. Since you have just passed your HSC exam (12th) you will not be eligible for appearing to the BTC exam.

For becoming a teacher always in any school or college or post gradaute institute, graduation is a must.

Looking at your passion to become a teacher, I would like to recommend you the following ways. You may choose any of them as per your wish and ability:

1. Teaching in Schools till SSc level (10th):

For this one has to be atleast a graduate. These days schools gives preference to masters degree holders. After becoming a graduate you can appear for BEd course (Bachelors in Education) which is a two year full time course. After Graduation and BEd qualification you can get entry into schools for being a subject teachers, etc.

2. Teaching in junior colleges (for 11th and HSC level):

Here too you require to be a minimum graduate and BEd / MEd. Here too post graduation is preffered.

3. Teaching in senior college (after HSC till graduation level):

Here you need to be a masters degree holder and also need to qualify UGC's NET or SET examinations. NEET / SET examinations are required to be passed by every full time lecturer who wishes to teaching senior colleges.

4. Teaching in Senior and post graduate colleges:

Here, it is highly recommended that you should be a post graduate and also NET / SET qualified. Further for the role of Professor / Dean / HOD, one needs to also complete PhD in the chosen specialisation subject.

The above are the four ways through which you can get into the teaching field and education industry.

Best Luck!

Dear friend, many thanks for your question. I appreciate your thought to make career in teaching line. The teaching is one of the noblest profession and apart from this the teacher play a significant role in shaping the future of the country. Teaching is respectable profession in India, where teacher is given highest regard.

Since you have passed 12 standard, therefore, you can apply for BTC (Basic Teacher Certificate or Basic Training Certificate). This is a two years course and the syllabus depends upon state to state. The entry level requires 50% marks in 12 standard. The admission procedure could be through entrance test or may be through direct entry. Here you have not mentioned your state, other wise it would have been easy for me to you guide you better. After BTC you will be eligible to teach primary classes, up to 5th standard.

If you wish to teach higher classes upto 12 standard. Then you have to to graduation and then post graduation in the subject which interest you most. Even after gradation, you are eligible to to do B.Ed (Bachelor of Education). After graduation and BEd you will be eligible to teach up to 7-8 standard classes.

After obtaining a degree in graduation and BEd, if you go for post graduation, that will be better. Since as as PGT (Post Graduate Teacher), a post graduate degree with BEd will make you eligible to teach the higher classes. Technically you will be eligible teach the higher classes up to 11-12 standard. To progress in your career pathway, if you do Masters in Education (MEd) then that will help you a lot.

On the other hand, the person who is teaching colleges are also known as teacher. If you wish to excel in life, wish to achieve higher positions, then after teaching for couple of years you can clear the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC-CSIR and you will be eligible to become lecturer (Teacher) in colleges. I am also a teacher, I am teaching M.Sc , MPhil and PhD classes in a reputed University. I can understand the joy of teaching the students. That's why I told you to go for higher education.

If you wish to teach the school classes only, then my suggestion will be , after having the certificate course of BTC, you should go for graduation and then do BEd to be technically qualified for middle classes.

With all my best wishes,

Good Luck..
