Should I choose my career choice or my parents? What can my career be?

Respected Sir/Ma'am, I completed my class 10th and chose the science stream for I like science. I took economics as my optional subject. My parents want me to do engineering,MBA and do business just like the trend. But the thought kills me. I want to do what I love. I'm a good student. I scored 9.6 in 9th. I'm the school athlete and I've a senior diploma in keyboard and guitar. I also am a good swimmer. I love to travel and know different cultures. I want to help people, too.Currently, I am working with an NGO for special children. I love story writing and poetry. I have started writing a novel on passion. Plus, I have in interest in learning french. Also, I have an inclination towards investigation an stuff. I am a bit confused. Will what my parents say right for me?

Dear friend, nice to see you here in CareerGuide.com. I really appreciate your multifarious talents. Since you love science, therefore, my suggestion would be that you should listen to your heart and mind. Just imagine, you choose subjects selected by your parents, then going through that process will not make you lively. You will read the subjects and course but you will do out of force or as an obligatory.

Now you have decide that what in science attracts you, do you wish to become a doctor (though you have not mentioned it). Since you do not also wish to go for engineering and MBA, therefore, it seems that you would like to see yourself as scientist or in academic stream of science.

You do have many other good qualities, rather hobbies, which makes you a complete person. Keep these activities as these will make you happy and more lively.

Let me tell you that now you should study science in 12 standard, your subjects could be physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics or computers. when you will read these subjects you will come to know that which subject is close to your heart or which subject you understand more. Based on this, choose science subject in graduation and then post graduation. After post graduation in science you will be technically eligible to get job in governmental sector (colleges, universities, research institutions and governmental laboratories) or private companies (research and development laboratory or quality control).

I would like to share here my personal experience, my parents wished to see me a doctor, but I was not at all interested to become a physician. Biology was the only subject which was (and till today) very close to me. Till my graduation, I was not sure what I have to be in my life. After scoring good grades in graduation, I opted for microbiology in post graduation and then doctoral degree in the same subject. I joined academic field, worked for few years and then joined in Gulf Country as Microbiologist in Ministry of Agriculture. Worked there for eight years and now back to India in academic profession in one of the best university.

You can also choose subject of your choice when you will start reading in 12 or graduation. Just listen to your heart and go ahead. The science subject has great opportunities in India as well as abroad in many fields.

With all my best wishes,

Good Luck...

Hello

Unorganised Sector

Thank you for choosing Mera career guide and writing to us. I completely understand your confusion but I very much appreciate your multi-talents. You have also scored pretty high in tenth class. Wonderful! May I ask you what you want to do in future? Have you thought any time on what you want to become? Have you ever liked any famous personality and can you reason out why you like and also in what profession are they in? Have you got any role model who inspired you the most? If you can try to explain these questions to yourself you will achieve some clarity to know what interests you the most.

I can understand that you are not interested in doing an Engineering and then an MBA, where this is the common route for most of the people. This explicitly shows that you want to do something different and reach people the most. It is always advisable to say that any one needs to pursue a career only that interests them and not following on any body else advice. So feel free to do whatever you love.

As you are in a Science group, do you like to do something with this group? With a Science group your option is the medical route. If you would like, you can try for an MBBS/ BDS as your Bachelors degree and later get specialised into a particular stream like the neuro surgeon, gynaecologist, or even a skin specialist. Else you can also consider doing a BTech Biotechnology and after then an MTech Biotech and finally a PhD Biotech. A PhD is a Doctorate degree and the possibly highest academic achievement. This qualifies you as a researcher/ scientist.

As you have taken an optional subject Economics, you may also try studying a BA Economics or BBE Bachelor of Business Economics. these degrees necessarily dont take you to a business profession. Instead you can opt for being an Economist advisor after a BA/ MA/ PhD Economics.

Apart from these you can still pursue your extra curricular activities as usual. And as time goes you will actively embark on any one of the activities (swimming/ athletes/ writing). You can also take coaching seriously for swimming or athletes simultaneously and if that gets you a sport career you can definitely develop such talents.

Beyond all you should consider taking a psychometric test from this website to help you understand your personality type and the suitable careers. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Dear Friend
Thank you very much choosing MeraCaeerGuide.com for the right suggestion which could be helpful to give a direction based on the appropriate benchmarking. It is a matter of pleasure that you are such a talented and self motivated and concerned about a healthy and meaningful career. In fact parents choice and opinion for your career perspective is not convincing as our society is still moving with the conservative strategies, as we know parents are equally concerned of their prodigies and always look for better options irrespective of child's interest and strength. Now a days all types of confusions are being dealt by several helping agencies where students are getting benefited at being enlightened at the same time parents are also having contemporary thoughts to educate their kids.

As far as your interest is concerned which seem to be strong and prevalent those have to be transformed with your convincing power which is one of the keys of success, as this world is full of dreamers and talents but rarely those dreams are being realized and convinced to the world. Try to understand the essential ingredients to be incorporated to your life and temperament at this juncture, according acquire the potential to explain as you have evinced your academic understanding by scoring 9.6 CGPA where your parents must be convinced about your fundamental approach. You do not need any motivational and boosting helps from us as you are the symbolic of young generation and have set the brilliant example -you are associated sports, NGOs, humanity, and various creative arts I really admire you for your multidimensional skills. I believe that you will be able to convince your parents with your creative arts which will not only help you and your career rather your entire family, society, state, nation and world will be benefited. Never loose the spirit of fighter but never develop the negative thought against your family and friends those are opposing your current opinion rather try your level best with the references available for your interest
. Hope your parents will realise that definition of reputation has taken a new dimension in your life and entire world. My best wishes with you for your endeavours------------

Good luck !
