Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) is a public university located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. It was established in 1966 as Madurai University, and was renamed in 1978 to honor K. Kamaraj, former Chief Minister of Madras State. MKU is a statutory university governed by Acts, Statutes, Ordinances, and Regulations. It is recognized and funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
