The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) exam is a national-level exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for determining eligibility for Lectureship (LS) /Assistant Professor in certain subject areas falling under the faculty of Science & Technology. Entrance exam
The CSIR entrance test is conducted twice a year in June and December by the NTA (National Testing Agency). The exam is three hours long and is conducted on a computer-based basis. Candidates must have a MSc in Science or a BTech in Engineering from a recognized university to be eligible for the exam. Candidates in the final year of their MSc in Engineering or BTech are also eligible to sit for the exam. The CSIR entrance test will help Indian nationals to qualify for the award of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and to determine their eligibility for the Lectureship(LS) / Assistant Professor position in certain subject areas under the faculty of science & technology.

In order to take the CSIR entrance test, you must meet the following eligibility criteria: You must be an Indian national. have a master’s degree in science or a bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology from a recognised university. be in your final year of your Master’s degree. Passing Criteria
In order to qualify in the CSIR examination, candidates need to score at least 33% in General category, EWS category, OBC category and 25% in SC category, ST category, PwD category. Besides General aptitude, candidates also need to qualify in Part A (General aptitude) and Part B (Subject specific paper). If candidates qualify in both these sections and score at least 33%, they will be considered to have cleared the CSIR examination. The CSIR pass percentage may vary from one year to the next. Supplementary exam
There is no additional exam for CSIR NET. If you do not qualify in the first attempt for the JRF/LS/Assistant Professor position, you can re-appear for the exam in the following cycle. There is no limit on how many times you can appear for the exam. Revaluation exam
The CSIR NET exam is not re-evaluated. The results of the CSIR NET are final and can not be challenged. You can only request recheck of your answer sheets if you are unsatisfied with your result. Rechecking is only done if there are ommissions in the marks or if the calculation of marks is wrong. Rechecking does not mean re-evaluating the answers or answer sheets. You can apply for recheck by writing a request and paying the prescribed fee to Examination Unit of the CSIR. The fee for recheck is not refundable and the decision of the CSIR regarding your recheck request is final. If the recheck results show that you have gained marks after the recheck, the revised marks are reflected on your scorecard. If the marks do not change after recheck, your original scorecard remains valid.
