1. Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, West Bengal.
It is among the first IITs, established in 1951 and has also been recognised as the ‘Institute of National Importance’. The institute is renowned for its Engineering courses and is always spotted among the top 5 institutes in the NIRF ranking. It has also been entitled as an autonomous University. 2. Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee
Established in 1847, IIT Roorkee is the seventh IIT institution among the group of IITs. On September 21, 2001, it was converted to an IIT by an Ordinance issued by the Government of India which declared it as the nation’s seventh Indian Institute of Technology, an “Institution of National Importance”. The campus is spread over 25 acres of land and in 2011, its other campus was established in Greater Noida. It was ranked 383 in the QS World University Rankings of 2020. NIRF Ranking 2020 gave it the 2nd position in Architectural education. Courses offered in Architecture:
Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) – There are 30 seats available and admission is done on the basis of the candidate’s score in JEE Advanced or NATA or AAT. It is a 5-year long course i.e. 10 semesters.
Master of Architecture (M.Arch) – One would need to qualify GATE for this course. It is for two years with 18 seats in each of the following:

3. National Institute of Technology, Calicut
Since its inception in 1961, National Institute of Technology has been an institute of national importance. The campus is spread over 300 acres with 11 departments, 8 centres and 3 schools on-campus. A Training and Placement department was created in 1983 to manage campus recruitment of students. The Department of Architecture was established in 1990. NIRF Ranking 2020 gave it the 3rd position for its courses. Course offered:
Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) – There are 59 seats available and admission is done on the basis of the candidate’s score in either JEE Advanced or NATA. It is a 5-year long course.

4. Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology
CEPT University, established in 1962, is a private university in Ahmedabad. It was recognised as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) of the Government of India. In 2020, NIRF Ranking ranked it 4th for the field.
Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) – You either need to take the JEE Advanced, NATA or the CEPT entrance exam. It is a five year course and has two categories you can choose from:
- Bachelor’s in Architecture (B.Arch)
- Bachelor in Construction Technology
Master of Architecture (M.Arch) – A candidate is selected on the basis of marks obtained in Bachelor of Architecture degree, portfolio, work experience and personal interview. There are 4 types of courses:

5. School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi
The Department of Architecture of Delhi Polytechnic, School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) was established in 1941. The then Ministry of Education and Culture recognised the university for its specialized courses and therefore the university secured eminence in the year 1979 by the Govt. of India and was conferred with the status of “Deemed to be a University”.
Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) – It has a total 133 seats and you need to take JEE Main or NATA as a part of the admission process. It is a five-year course.
Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) – It is a two-year course and you need to take GATE or CEED for admission to these courses:
