IIT JAM 2023 is an all-India joint entrance examination for admission to Master of Science (M.Sc.) and other post-graduate programs in Science at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other participating institutes. It is also used by the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs) for admission to their Master of Science programs.

Introduction

IIT JAM is a computer-based test (CBT) of 3 hours duration. It consists of 60 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for 100 marks. The exam is divided into three parts:

  • Part A: General Aptitude (10 questions)
  • Part B: Subject-specific questions (50 questions)

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for IIT JAM are as follows:

  1. Educational Qualification: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (or 5.5 out of 10 CGPA) for General/OBC-NCL category candidates and 50% aggregate marks (or 5.0 out of 10 CGPA) for SC/ST and PwD category candidates. The degree must be from a recognized university or institution. Candidates who are appearing in their final year of the qualifying degree are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria by the time of admission.
  2. Age Limit: There is no age limit for appearing in the IIT JAM exam.
  3. Nationality: Indian nationals, as well as foreign nationals, are eligible to apply for IIT JAM. However, foreign nationals are required to satisfy the rules and regulations of the admitting institute(s) regarding foreign students.
  4. Minimum Qualifying Marks: There is no minimum qualifying marks criterion for IIT JAM. However, admission to the program is based on the merit list, which is prepared based on the performance of candidates in the entrance exam.
