The practice of teaching fine arts dates back to the 16th century when students who wished to enter the new profession of the artist were trained in special academies set up across Europe.

Courses offered in fine arts

It is a certificate-level course and can be pursued after completing 10+2 education. The fee for the course may vary from INR 10,000 to 100000 across various colleges and universities in India. The duration of the course is 1 year.
Bachelor of fine arts (BFA) or Bachelor of visual arts (BVA). The duration of these courses is 4 to 5 years.
Bachelor of Arts in fine arts (BA). The duration of the course is 3 years.

Postgraduate courses
Master of fine (MFA) or master of visual arts (MVA). The duration of the course is 2 years.
Master of Arts in fine arts (MA). The duration of this course is 2 years.
