Journalism and media having more than 900 permitted private news/television channels, which creates a lot of opportunities and job prospects for the students pursuing journalism.
Every year about 40-50% students choose journalism as their career to become a journalist in India. Candidates usually study journalism, communication or English to become a journalist. 69% of journalists have a bachelor’s degree and 10% have a master’s degree.
Students can take any stream with English as a major subject in class 12th, and obtain 50% marks (for general) or 45% marks (for reserved categories) to be eligible for a career in journalism can do. After 12th they can do diploma course in English, BA Journalism or Communication or Journalism. However, Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC) is the most preferred course to become a journalist in India. After graduation they can do MJMC course or master course in journalism or mass communication.
