Cotton University Campus
History of the Campus
The University campus was founded in 1901 by Sir Henry Stedman Cotton, the Chief Commissioner of the erstwhile British province of Assam. The campus is spread over 4.59 acres and is home to a number of heritage buildings, including the Chemistry Department, the Principal’s Bunglow, and the Dr. Suryya Kumar Bhuyan Library. The campus has also been a center of the freedom movement and the literary and cultural movements of the state.
The Main Building
The Main Building is the oldest and most iconic building on the University campus. It is a two-story structure with a red-brick exterior and a white-pillared portico. The building houses the administrative offices of the university, as well as classrooms, lecture halls, and a library.
Christ Church Cathedral
Christ Church Cathedral was built on land that was originally part of the University campus. The cathedral is now a National Historic Landmark, and the university campus is located nearby. The two institutions have a long history of cooperation, and they continue to work together to serve the community.
