Maharashtra is considered a major educational hub of India and is known to offer quality education. The state has more than 4300 colleges across multiple streams, where 160 thousand at an average pass out every year. This article will primarily focus on the top 10 engineering colleges of the state which are known for prime technical education and amazing placement opportunities.

1) Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Bombay

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is one of the oldest running IITs of India, which was set up in the year 1958, with added foreign aid. IIT Bombay is the incontestable member among the top engineering colleges of India and therefore getting a seat here is equally tough. IIT Bombay has been given the title of “Institute of National Importance” by the Govt. of India, in the year 1961 and since then IIT B has been offering top-class education, along with space for research activities and innovations.

2) College of Engineering, COE Pune

College of Engineering, Pune is one of the oldest running engineering colleges in the city. The college was established in the year 1854 and since then, it is running as a private college, affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune. COE Pune is also approved by AICTE and accredited by NBA. It offers a total of 16 BTech degree programs across 8 major disciplines, including both BTech regular as well as BTech lateral entry. COE Pune accepts admission into its BTech programs on the basis of MHCET.

3) Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, VNIT Nagpur

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is one of the members of the NITs club of India, which was established in the year 1960, but it was given the NIT status in 2002 and was recognized by the UGC. VNIT was also ranked 31 in the category of engineering by NIRF in 2019. As it is an NIT, admissions into the BTech program are based on either JEE Mains or JEE Advanced. There are a total of 11 specializations available under BTech in VNIT.

4) Institute of Chemical Technology, ICT Mumbai

Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai is a private institute, which came into existence in the year 1993 and is currently affiliated with the University of Mumbai. ICT Mumbai offers BTech programs in a total of 8 major branches and all the admissions are made on the basis of merit scored in MHCET. ICT holds the position 501, across the world, by the World University Rankings and it is also ranked as the 10th best institute in India by NIRF, for engineering.

5) Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, VJTI Mumbai

Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute is one of the pioneering technical colleges in the city of Mumbai. The college is presently recognized by the AICTE and it was established in the year 1887. VJIT is a private college, which is affiliated with the University of Mumbai. VJIT offers BTech degree programs in a total of 9 major disciplines and all admissions into these are granted strictly on the basis of MHCET.

6) Pune Institute of Computer Technology, PICT Pune

Pune Institute of Computer Technology is a leading private institute, located in Pune. PICT Pune was set up in the year 1983, and it is affiliated with the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune. PICT has a total of 5 specializations to offer under BTech degree programs and admissions are granted on the basis of MHCET only.
