The Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) – whenever we hear the word IIT, the first thing that pops into our heads in general, is Engineering. But did you know that in IITs, ground-breaking research is being done in Life Sciences, ranging from low-cost medical devices to biodegradable materials? There are several courses in IITs that could be chosen to be done at undergraduate, post-graduate and even research level, for a life science student. Getting Addmission Into IITs
For admission into any undergraduate courses, like B.Tech. and B.Tech.-MTech Dual Degrees, right after Class 12th, a good qualifying score in IIT-JEE exam is a must. Postgraduate courses like MSc, (MS Research), MSc-PhD require a valid IIT-JAM score; BSc candidates with relevant subjects can apply for these courses. A valid GATE score is needed for applying for MTech, in the case of B.Tech. In case you are considering to do PhD in IITs, exam scores taken into consideration for admission include GATE, CSIR-NET, UGC-NET, DBT-BET, ICMR, ICAR and DST INSPIRE fellowships.
Out of the 23 IITs in India, 12 of them offer courses in Life Science and other allied engineering subjects.
Admission to IITs is highly competitive and is based on performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. Candidates must first clear the JEE Main exam to be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. The JEE Advanced exam is conducted once a year, usually in May or June.
The syllabus for the JEE Advanced exam is based on physics, chemistry, and mathematics at the 10+2 level. The exam tests candidates’ understanding of concepts, problem-solving abilities, and analytical skills.
