What is JEE?
JEE is an abbreviation for Joint Entrance Examination. It consists of 2 phases. Phase 1 is known as JEE mains and, phase two is known as JEE Advance exam. Let’s dig a bit deeper.
JEE is an examination conducted to take admission in engineering institutes of national importance. You must have heard about IITs, IIITs, and NITs. To grab your seat in these colleges, you need to secure decent marks that satisfy the cutoff of that particular exam.
JEE Mains
Jee Mains is the first phase of the Joint Entrance Exam. It is conducted by NTA( National Testing Agency) . It is a computer-based exam and, it is conducted online. Earlier, there were two attempts for this exam, but now the NTA has increased it to four attempts. So a candidate now has four chances to clear the JEE Manis examination. It is conducted in January or April. There are three sections in this paper consisting of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
The total number of questions is 90, comprising of 30 questions in each section. You need to clear the cutoff of the whole paper at once and, there are no such criteria per section, which is the case of JEE Advanced (as discussed below). There are almost 10 lakh participants who sit in the exam every year. The results are released probably within two weeks of the exam and, based on the percentile you scored. It decides whether you will sit for JEE Advance exam. This exam is concentrated to get admission in NITs and IIITs and, other institutes of tier 3 or tier 2.
JEE Advanced
So, if you managed to score a decent percentile in JEE Mains, you will be qualified to sit in JEE Advance exam. As JEE Advanced is the second step or should I say the final stage to grab your seat in IITs. The difficulty level is so apt accordingly. The question level is not too easy and rather than of intermediate and hard level. So, you need to prepare thoroughly for this examination and sit over the chair till the last oil drop. Though that seemed to be too terrific but trust me, so the exam is. The paper pattern is slightly different.
Unlike JEE Mains, here we have two papers i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both the papers consist of all the three subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The question type here not even simple. There are multi correct multiple-choice, numerical-based, matrix-type questions to increase the difficulty level. However, the worth of this exam is can be seen by the availability of seats in the IITs. From the participants of approximately 2 lakhs, only 10,000 students get selected for the IITs. Thus, if you are willing to study at the Indian Institute of technology, you should study hard and smartly.
Marking Scheme
In the JEE Mains examination, the marking pattern is the same every year is +3,-1. If you marked an answer correctly, you will get +3 marks. While if the marked answer is incorrect, then it is decremented by 1 mark. However, in JEE Advance, there is no fixed pattern of marking scheme. They used to change it and add slight variation. However, you can easily find the sample and previous year’s question papers on the official sites of NTA and JEE.
Conclusion
With this, I hope you got an idea about the JEE examination. I want you to concentrate on that many people take this exam for granted, but this should not be. Instead, one should study hard and smartly. I also recommend having a look at other articles to get to know more. Thank You!
