XAT Exam Pattern

The XAT exam pattern has undergone several changes over the years. As of my last update in September 2021, here’s the general exam pattern:

Total Sections: XAT usually consists of four sections, namely Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge.

Total Questions: The total number of questions may vary, but it’s typically around 100-110 questions.

Duration: The exam duration is generally 3 hours.

Marking Scheme: The marking scheme varies from year to year, but there is often a penalty for incorrect answers.

General Knowledge: This section is unique to XAT and assesses your knowledge of current affairs, business, politics, and other relevant topics. It is often not considered in the percentile calculation for admission.

Please note that the XAT exam pattern may have changed since my last update in September 2021. Therefore, I recommend visiting the official XAT website or checking with the respective colleges for the most current exam pattern.

XAT Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the XAT exam, candidates must meet certain criteria. Here are the typical eligibility requirements:

Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognized university. The degree can be in any discipline.

Minimum Marks: There is no specific minimum percentage or CGPA requirement. However, candidates should check the individual college’s admission criteria, as some colleges may have their own minimum eligibility criteria.

Final Year Students: Candidates in their final year of graduation can also apply for XAT, provided they complete their degree before the start of the academic session at the respective B-school.

NRI/Foreign Candidates: NRI and foreign candidates can also apply through GMAT scores.

It’s important to note that meeting the eligibility criteria for the XAT exam does not guarantee admission to any particular college. Admission is based on a candidate’s XAT score, performance in the selection rounds (such as Group Discussion, Personal Interview, and Written Ability Test), and the specific admission criteria of each college.

XAT Exam Syllabus

The XAT syllabus covers a wide range of topics across its various sections. Here’s a brief overview of the syllabus for each section:

Verbal and Logical Ability (VA & LR): This section typically includes questions on topics like reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, critical reasoning, and logical ability.

Decision Making (DM): The Decision Making section assesses a candidate’s ability to analyze and make decisions in complex situations. It includes case-based questions that test your ethical and analytical decision-making skills.

Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (QA & DI): This section covers mathematical topics such as algebra, geometry, arithmetic, and data interpretation. It requires a strong foundation in mathematics and problem-solving skills.

General Knowledge (GK): The General Knowledge section tests your awareness of current affairs, business, economics, politics, and other relevant topics. It may include both static and current GK questions.

Please note that the level of difficulty and the specific topics covered in each section may vary from year to year. Therefore, it’s essential to refer to the official XAT syllabus provided by XLRI or the XAT website for the most up-to-date information.
