Indian’s, for decades, have been looking and doing traditional jobs mostly. When we talk of placements after graduation, we always think of either engineering or medicals or a 9 to 5 job in some company. It is in the recent few years, or let’s just say after the release of the movie “3 idiots”, people started to think of other fields as careers too. So, let’s talk about courses that aren’t mainstream but are well paid off.
- Photographer/Cinematographer
You don’t even need a bachelor’s degree to be a photographer or cinematographer. You need passion, and this is probably a very ambiguous word, often misused, but you have to find it in yourself if you want to be either of them. There are various niches under them and you gotta find out where your interest lies. You can take up a diploma course in photography or cinematography that on average takes 1-3 years to complete, and start with this as your career. If you look upon the internet you can find a few good institutions that provide these courses. It might take you some time to become a professional, highly paid photographer but the starting salary is pretty good, at an average of about 3LPA.
- Ethical Hacking
What do you require to be an ethical hacker? Well, a computer and LOVE for computers and anything related to it. Different institutes provide you with courses for Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) Certification. You can start with this course right after your 10th Class and what’s better? The salary ranges from 1.5L to 20L.
- Professional Writer
What do you need to become a writer? You need to write. You need to write A LOT! Again writing is not about the degree and more about the passion. You can start writing as a profession and this field is quite well paid, depending on different niches. For instance, scriptwriters might be better paid than just traditional writers. You can go ahead and get the different courses on Creative Writing and land into this world of words.
- Research and Development
Most people do not focus on the Research and Development sector of any industry as they mostly work on the back end but R&D is a sector that is very well paid. Depending upon your interest and/or choice of subjects, be it pharmacy, chemistry, or data analysis, you need to acquire the required degrees and you can have a respectable and well-paid job.
- Blockchain and cryptocurrencies
If you’ve been following the news, you know the price of the cryptocurrency bitcoin has soared recently. But if you’ve been following the news, you know that bitcoin is just the tip of the iceberg for technology with much more potential: the blockchain. Recently, it has been a buzzword amongst everyone and students have been quite interested in taking this up as a career. Consequently, many renowned institutions like Stanford and Berkeley are offering students courses on this to enroll. This will again be one of the high-paying jobs that you can think of that is not yet mainstream.
These are just some of the many courses that aren’t mainstream but require skills, not degrees exactly, and are highly paid. Have got the knack and passion for it? What’s stopping you? Just go ahead and enroll in the courses.
