6. Eligibility To Be A Professor

After doing PG with a minimum of 55% marks in your subject you have to clear the SET – State Entrance Test, to be eligible for assistant professor. SET is only for state-level colleges and collage level assistance professors. To qualify for all three levels you must have to clear the National Entrance Test(NET). NET makes you eligible to teach in all national and state-level colleges.

7. Preparation For NET/SET

These are among the toughest exams in India. SET is conducted by state agencies but NET is being conducted by UGC on behalf of NTA ( National Testing Agency ). It is also known as NTA NET and UGC-NTA-NET. SET is being conducted once a year whereas NET twice a year. Both conduct online in two sessions paper-1 and paper-2. Paper-1 holds a total of marks 100, consists of 50 questions with 2 numbers each. Objective-type questions based on aptitude, reasoning, and general ability. Paper-2 holds 200 marks, consists of 100 questions with 2 numbers each. Questions asked in this paper will be based on your subject.

8. The P.Hd Compulsory?

Different colleges have different rules for selections, some ask for a p.hd and some not. Generally in the initial stage, it is not compulsory but for further promotions, it is better to have a P.hd. After doing PG and clearing the NET you can be an assistance professor but to be a professor you will need a p.hd.

9. Assistant To Professor

Generally, you have to spend 5 to 7 years as an assistant professor to get the position of a professor. It is a tough process and difficult to get a permanent position. You will need a recommendation from your seniors. It also depends on your network and research works.

10. Quality Of A Professor

The level of a professor is similar to an Administration officer. You should develop the quality of understanding and solving the problem like a pro.
