About

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) is a statutory entity of the Government of India’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. It was founded in 1964 with the goal of maintaining national food security through effective price support operations, the preservation of adequate operating and buffer inventories of food grains, and the distribution of food grains across the country for the public distribution system (PDS). FCI operates a network of more than 5,500 Depots and Warehouses across the country and employs more than 22,000 people. FCI plays a vital role in India’s food economy and ensures the food security of the country’s population.

Fci

Food Corporation of India (FCI) is the biggest public sector undertaking (PSO) in the world in food management. FCI procures the food grains from the farmers at the MSP announced by the GOI. The food grains are kept in FCI’s Godowns and Warehouses all over the country. The food grains released by FCI are then distributed to state governments through the Public Distribution System (PDS) to the consumers at subsidised rates. FCI also contributes to food price stability by intervening in the market to balance the demand and supply of food grains and keep food prices in check.
