Q1. I have already selected a stream. Should I still take the stream selector test?
Some people are naturally gifted with a strong character that helps them know exactly what they want to do after 10th. For them, the choice is easy. Some students go on a whim and select their streams. However, it is likely that they will feel like changing their stream in the future. Some students also choose their stream because of peer pressure or what their friends want to do. They end up opting for the same stream as their friends. This is unhealthy for their future.
However, If you have already chosen what stream you want and is best in your interest, it is highly recommended that you take Stream Selector Assessment to further get an affirmative opinion. Ideally if you have clarity and understanding on your stream choice, the test report will recommend stream which you have already decided upon.
This is because the stream selector test allows you to measure your aptitude and interest by carefully examining in all the streams. It then analyses the stream selector test results according to the answers you give. After which, your results are formed depending upon what you scored best in. These answers determine what stream suits you the best according to your aptitude and interest.
Q2. How many questions are there in the stream selector test? What types of questions are there?
The test comprises of 76 questions in total that are divided into two sections one of Interest and the other of Aptitude. The Psychometric Test Stream Suggestor consists of 76 objective questions out of which 36 questions measure interest and 40 questions measure aptitude in various streams. The four streams are: Commerce Humanities Maths Biology.
In total there are 5 Aptitudes that are measured. They are Acuteness, Numerical, Critical, Dissection, Verbal and Spatial.
The famous Holland’s code has been kept as the base of interest section. The Holland Codes or the Holland Occupational Themes (RIASEC), developed by the late psychologist John L. Holland, refers to a theory of careers and vocational choice based upon personality types. Each letter or code stands for a particular “type”: Realistic (Doers),
Investigative (Thinkers), Artistic (Creators), Social (Helpers), Enterprising (Persuaders), and conventional (Organizers). Here Interest has been differentiated in four different streams and the RIASEC professional situations related to them. Thus RIASEC became the base of Stream selector in Interest section. The interest section consists of 9 X 4 = 36 questions measuring the interest of the student in various streams like Maths, Biology, Commerce and Humanities.
Q3. Do I have to finish the stream selector test in one go?
The total numbers of questions were kept 76 and 40 questions assigned to Aptitude part keeping in mind that generally available Aptitude tests as DBDA give time limit of 1 minute per question and assessing 5 types of Aptitude would take reasonably fair 40 minutes for the same.
The interest part was assigned 36 questions keeping in mind that the generally available interest tests are completed within 15 to 20 minutes giving approximately 1⁄2 minute for each question. Thus total time taken would be 40 + 18 = 58 Minutes. Within an hour’s time stream suggestor test is completed and auto ready for the report.
Once you have started giving the test and have to leave it due to an emergency or any other prior work, you can come back and take the test again. Once you have logged in and have started the test, your answers are saved. Even if you log out and decide to come back and take the test, you do not have to start from scratch. The test is saved automatically. You can come back and resume the test. The website automatically reminds you to resume your test as you log back in.
However, it is recommended that you take the test in one go since; you build a momentum the moment you start giving the test and you are determined in doing so. After you take a break, that very momentum gets lost.
Moreover, you might even try to overthink as to how and what you want to answer when you resume your test. This usually ends up making the answers not true to who you are.
Therefore, it is beneficial if you take the test in one go for accurate results and no manipulation of your own psyche at all.
Q4. Do I have to prepare before hand to take this test?
No there is no need for you to prepare before hand to take this test. The test does not include any specific mathematical or scientific questions that require you to have prior knowledge about them. The test is simply a series of questions that have multiple choices. None of the answers are right or wrong. They are simply choices that you make and are the most suitable and appropriate according to your interest and aptitude. They measure your interest and aptitude and then rank the four streams for you, based on what you answered.
No special preparation needs to be done before taking the test. Certain general instructions need to be followed. These are as follows :
Q5. Should parents be present when their children are taking the stream selector test?
It is advised that the parents should not be present with their children when they are about to take the stream selector test. This is so because; parents might end up adding additional pressure on the child. This can most likely end up disturbing or altering his or her test results and choices. Every answer the child gives will be doubtful for him or her because of the superior presence that is constantly beside them. What is worst is if the parent is reactive or interruptive to every answer the child tries to give.
This test is designed solely for the child who is taking it. If a parent interrupts or is present with the child, it becomes a test for the parent as well. Since the mind is intrigued by most of the things our eyes see, the parent is more likely to interrupt even if he or she does not want to.
However, if parents do want to sit with their child, which they ideally should not, it is recommended that they sit away from the computer as well as the child. This will make sure that the child is not afraid of the parent looking and judging their answers constantly. Not only will it otherwise, slow him down but it will also alter his answers to something that his or her parents expect rather that what he or she wants. The parents can guide them until the test starts if they want to.
Therefore, no, it is not recommended that parents be present at the time of the test. In fact, it is ideal if no one is present while the child is taking the test. This way the child stays true to his answers and does so with his own interests in mind and aptitude at work.
Q6. What scientific norms does the stream selector test follow?
This Stream Selector personality test sorts your inclination and enthusiasm into four fragments. These are in particular, mathematics, biology, commerce and humanities (arts). After this it ranks the same all together from the range of one to four. In this case, one being the most suitable and accurate whereas, four being the least suitable or accurate.
The total numbers of questions were kept 76 and 40 questions assigned to Aptitude part keeping in mind that generally available Aptitude tests give time limit of 1 minute per question and assessing 5 types of Aptitude would take reasonably fair 40 minutes for the same.
A set of test questions was first administered to a small group of people deemed to be representative of the population for which the final test is intended. The trial run was planned to provide a check on instructions for administering and taking the test and for intended time allowances, and it can also reveal ambiguities in the test content.
Q7. Why is taking this test so important for all 10th standard students?
In order to have a successful career, it is important to make the right stream choice. Sometimes, it may depend upon what you choose after 12th, sometimes it may depend upon what stream you pick right after the 10th standard. Most of the students do not know where their interest lie. Some students have said that they have opted for the stream because they thought that this stream was right for them or it was their parent’s decision. But they were clueless on the fact as to how they came up with this idea that the stream they have chosen for themselves is right for them.
The stream and choice of subject lays a foundation for a student’s career. Once the decision has been made, it is difficult to reverse. This is precisely, why it is important to take the stream selector test. Not just some, but by all 10th standard students.
Most of the students do not even know what those streams actually are. For them, commerce is an alien subject that they have suddenly been introduced to. Till class 10th, they used to study the subjects all together. Now, the scope is being widened so it is highly important for the students to know what they are getting into. Therefore, they need to be tested and they need to evaluate themselves based on that. There is no “good” or “bad” stream after 10th. All subjects offer different career options therefore, choosing wisely is very important. The test tries to understand the unique talent pattern that a child has.
Therefore, the stream selector test is very important for all the tenth standard students since it provides them with an option to choose between what their aptitude and interest have to offer and what they think they want to do despite that. It is a guiding path for those who have no idea as to what they want or where their life is supposed to direct them. In fact, it provides them with certain options that they are supposed to choose from. The test does not decide ultimately. The student himself does but the options are analyzed for him.
8. How do I know if the test is accurate and will select the right stream for me?
Various experts were interviewed as the test was being made. They were all asked as to what exactly should the test comprise of and what are the important factors that one needs to consider while choosing the right stream for oneself. The two highly important factors that came out of the consultation were aptitude and interest. Everyone agreed to the fact that aptitude and interest are the most essential.
The test consists of 76 questions in total. These have been divided into two sections of aptitude and interest. The aptitude section has been customized according to the basic abilities that are required for all the four streams. Five aptitudes are measured during the test. These are critical, numerical, dissection, verbal and spatial and acuteness. Ten questions are required for biology and commerce. 10 for measuring numerical aptitude required for math and commerce, 5 for humanities and its critical dissection, 5 for critical dissection of biology, 5 for verbal aptitude for humanities, 5 questions to measure the spatial aptitude that is required for math. Hence, each stream has 10 questions.
Whereas, interest uses the famous Holland’s code for accurate results. The occupational themes under this stand for- Realistic (the doers), Investigative (the thinkers), Artistic (the creators), social (the helpers), enterprising (the persuaders) and conventional (the organizers). This is called the RIASEC theme. Therefore, the test uses accurate measuring parameters that depend on the answers you give. According to the answers that you give after taking this test, your results and stream are selected accordingly.
9. Will I be able to select my stream after this test?
Many a times, students tend to get confused when it comes to choosing a specialized course after class 10. The stream selector plays a very important role in selecting a person’s stream since it acts as a filter. This is so because at times student’s process of selecting a stream is not purely based on their interests. Either their peers or their family pressurize them.
This test is a filtering process. However, sometimes a student at this age is not mature enough to take a major life decision hence, the test helps them in doing so. The test gives the student an idea about what they might be good at. Most of the students approach the wrong method of selecting a stream they do not know how to approach and whom to approach.
Therefore, the test helps in resolving the conflict between the mind and the others who pressurize a student into taking something they might not be good at. You will definitely be able to select a stream after taking this test. This is so because after you have answered all the necessary questions in the respective sections, your results are compiled and analyzed into the streams that are best suited for you.
At the end of the test, the results show whether you are best at science, commerce or humanities. These streams are ranked for you based on how you did on the test. After this, you can go ahead and make your decision on whether you should go for what the test shows you are best at. This can also help you understand whether the stream that the test shows is best for you, satisfies you or not.
Sometimes, the test results might just help you realize whether you see yourself studying that stream in the future or not. Hence, you can try and take the test and see for yourself whether it has been helpful in selecting a stream for you or not since the results are very accurate.

1. What if I am interested in science but the Stream Selector Test shows I am best at commerce?
The test might show that you are best at one of the streams and not so good at the others. The ranking could be against your expectations however, is purely based on your answers. Before you make any rash or impulsive decisions regarding your future, you need to understand that the stream selector test shows the result according to your own performance. The stream selector test assesses the answers critically to compile an objective result of your aptitude and interest. Hence, the test is a very practical way of understanding where your potential might stand since it uses psychometric analysis to compile the preferences.
However, the test is only a method of guidance for your future and to make you understand what you might turn out to be good at. It is a method of measuring your potential.
However, this is not the final decision. If you are very passionate about something and it was not brought out in the test or if the test shows that you might be average or not so good at something, you need to take it in a positive sense. This is so because it shows you where you stand and what it is that you need to improve on. Hence, this way, there is more scope for improvement in your field of interest and you can work towards making it better. If the stream selector test evaluation shows that you might be below average in one of the streams, yet you are still interested in it, this is only possible when you have lack of understanding of the streams, subjects and career options associated with it. All you need to do is try to understand more about that particular stream and career options associated with those streams.
2. How do I interpret and analyze stream selector report for myself?
If you have taken the test, the report will show you a graph. The graph represents the potential of an individual. It is formulated in terms of the interest and aptitude of the student. Once the students have had a look at their potential in the form of the test result, it will be easier for them to opt for their choice of stream.
The aptitude is marked in red whereas the interest is marked in yellow. The graph shows both of those in high, medium and low measures. All the four streams will be shown on the graph along with the aptitude and interest bars.
The report will help you understand what you are inclined towards. It helps you determine and identify the best stream based on your aptitude, ability as well as interest. A panel of highly experienced academic counselors, psychiatrists and psychologists has meticulously designed it.
The way you can interpret this report is by understanding what has been ranked number one out of the four streams. After which, each stream and its scope will be defined for you within the report. With that, you can understand what you need to look forward to and what stream it is that will suit you the best. Each stream column has a brief explanation along with a link to a page that explains the stream in details.
Here you can take the help of a parent, guardian or a counselor. They can help you understand and analyze the report better in case you have any doubts about the streams that are enlisted. However, it is best if you choose a neutral person who does not have a biased view about any of the streams.
3. According to the stream selector test, I am best at humanities but I like math, physics and chemistry. What stream can I opt for?
The aptitude test is a combination of several factors out of which the most important are aptitude and interest. It makes a person more informed and confident about choosing a stream. If the test shows that you are good at humanities, it has taken into account, your aptitude and interest towards the stream. However, if you do decide of PCM (physics, chemistry, math), it gives you an exceptionally fascinating arrangement of subjects to think about i.e. chemistry, mathematics, physics and English. Here you can take physical education, as an optional subject in the board examinations. However the best subjects to take here are economics or C++. They also permit you to broaden your scope later on during your graduation.
The test is supposed to help you give a direction and make your stream selection process easier for you. It calculates your abilities according to your performance in the test. However, you might just perform differently in the stream you select even if the test shows you were not good at it. Sometimes interests change. In case one has the aptitude and not the interest, they cannot carry on for long in that stream. Hence, one should take both into account.
In case that you take PCM, you will learn integration, number theory, differentiation, probability and trigonometry. At this moment you might not understand as to what the importance of it s or what it will mean in the future. Your advantage and preferences may change. In case that you do not want to continue with PCM after 12th, you can simply enter the commerce or business field for your graduation degree.
In case that you plan to consider biology then you need to have PCB with mathematics. Like that you should arrange and pick. In all, you do not have to stress about biology if you do not want to opt for it. PCM or PCB is a very competitive field. Hence, one should only take either if they are decent or good at it.
