Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Exemptions from Age Limit:

  • Persons with disabilities: 5 years
  • Persons belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST): 5 years
  • Ex-servicemen: 5 years
  • Persons who have served in the Armed Forces of India for not less than 5 years: 5 years
  • Persons who have served in the Indian Navy as a sailor for not less than 10 years: 10 years
  • Women: 5 years
  • Candidates who have served as Panchayats or Municipalities for not less than 5 years in the aggregate: 5 years

Selection Process:

The selection process for the WBCS exam is a three-tier process:

  1. Preliminary Exam: This is a screening test to eliminate a large number of applicants. It consists of two papers, each of 200 marks: General Studies and Bengali/English Comprehension.
  2. Mains Exam: This is a more detailed exam that tests the candidates’ knowledge of various subjects.
