    Ananya Sharma

Computer Science × Human-Centred Design aspirant

Jaipur, India Class 12 · CBSE · Science (PCM + CS)

I take fuzzy, everyday problems — a slow canteen queue, an untested water supply — and turn them into researched, tested solutions. Applying to UK, US and Canadian universities to study computer science with a human-centred design focus.

    About

    The short version

In Class 10, a psychometric assessment pointed me somewhere I hadn't considered: the overlap of technology and people. Everything since has been a test of that direction — a water-quality study that ended up in a municipal office, an app prototype the school canteen adopted in paper form, and a summer teaching digital basics at a government school.

The pattern I keep returning to: notice a small problem, research it properly, build the simplest thing that helps, and measure whether it did. That's the approach I want to take into a computer science degree with a human-centred design focus — and eventually into building public-interest technology for India.

    Four years, one direction

    2024 · Class 10

A psychometric assessment points to the overlap of technology and people. NTSE Stage 1 cleared.

    2024–25 · Class 11

Electives locked for the path — CS + Fine Arts. The water-quality study runs 3 months and reaches the ward office.

    Summer 2025

Digital-basics summer school: 6 weekends, 41 students certified, invited back for next year.

    2025–26 · Class 12

QueueLess places 2nd of 34; Best Position Paper at JaipurMUN; SAT 1480 and IELTS 7.5 banked.

    Fall 2027

Applications out: computer science × human-centred design — UK, US and Canada.

    Projects & research

    Work I'm proud of

Watercolour still-life of a water-testing field kit — sample bottles, meter, field notebook and map

    Ground-water quality study, Ward 42

Independent research project, mentored by my chemistry teacher

    Research · Class 11–12

Tested TDS, hardness and pH across 5 community bore-wells over 3 months and compared results against BIS safe-water norms. Two wells exceeded safe TDS limits; I presented the findings to the municipal ward office and re-tested after monsoon to track the change.

    QueueLess — canteen pre-ordering prototype

    Team lead, 3 members · 2nd of 34 teams

    Design · school hackathon

Our lunch break is 25 minutes; the canteen queue eats 15. I interviewed 30 students, mapped the bottleneck and designed a pre-order flow in Figma, tested with 12 classmates across two rounds. The canteen now runs a paper-token version of the idea during exams.

    Digital-basics summer school

    Founder & lead instructor, with 2 co-volunteers

    Community · 6 weekends

A government school near us had a computer lab but nobody to teach the basics. I designed a 6-session course — typing, files, email, staying safe online — and taught it every Saturday. 41 students completed it, and the school has asked us back next summer.

    Selected writing

How I write about the work

"Well 3 and Well 5 read 640 and 712 mg/L TDS respectively — above the 500 mg/L BIS acceptable limit, though under the 2000 mg/L permissible ceiling. The households using them aren't in danger; they're in the grey zone where nobody is responsible for telling them. That grey zone is what this report is for."

From the ground-water study report · Section 4, Findings

"I planned the first session around the mouse. Wrong. Half the class had used a phone for years and found the cursor insulting; the other half had never touched one. The real lesson wasn't 'computer basics' — it was learning to teach two classrooms sitting in the same room."

From a Notion post · "What 41 students taught me about teaching"

    Leadership & activities

Where I show up every week

    Secretary, Science Club

Grew weekly attendance from 14 to 40+ by switching to demo-first sessions; ran the club's first inter-school quiz with 8 schools participating.

    Editor, school magazine

Shipped 3 issues with a 9-student contributor team; introduced a photo-essay section and moved production to a shared digital workflow.

    MUN delegate

Represented two conferences (UNEP, WHO committees); Best Position Paper at JaipurMUN for a brief on urban water safety — built on my research project.

"Ananya doesn't stop at the assignment. The water-quality survey began as a chemistry practical and ended in the ward office — that initiative is rare at this age."
