Hello

Thank you for contacting counsellors at Mera career guide. I am happy you contacted us to help you solve your query. Before I proceed, let me introduce myself. I am Gomathi, a counsellor practicing in this industry since 23 years and I am very happy to solve your question today. May I ask you what degree you completed? Did you do a BE Mechanical engineering as your undergraduate degree? You can actually do any degree for airport handling jobs.

First of all you should know what are the various types of jobs in airport. Airport jobs are divided into two groups. One are the ground jobs that involves hospital management, airport management, airline ground staff, receptionist staff and ground technical staff. Having a BE degree in mechanical engg subject, you should be more suitable to airport technical jobs at ground level. Ground level jobs means you are based at the ground level i.e your office will be located within the airport. you wont be flying on planes. But these jobs could be done better if you have some extra certifications like Diploma in Flight technician courses. With a Mechanical engg background, you can very well consider these options.

Next, you can consider managing airport if you are interested. You can think of doing an MBA if you like. An MBA in airport management is highly appreciable and demanding in this country. It pays you good too. Lots of universities in India offers this course and it is run for two years. Completing the MBA, you can work at airports and your role will involve managing all ground staffs of your company. In this role, you can either be recruited by the airport authority or the airline itself. Airport authority recruits will overall the entire airport operations and the airline authority will overlook only staffs working for that particular present in the ground level at the airport.

You should carefully choose what type of career you want and take steps accordingly. If you aspire a technical career, you should consider the technician and engineering roles at airport. If you want a career in management level. you should consider doing the MBA in Aviation management or Airport management and so related jobs. Hope you have a good understanding now.

Good luck.
