Hi Sahil,
Interesting you wish to be a lawyer.
Apart from academics , you need strong analytical skills, logic and good or rather excellent communication skills with the art of being able to convince people.
In terms of academic degree, you have 2 options:
Option 1: You could pursue a 5 years LAW degree course, either in streams like BBALLB, BALLB, B.SCLLB. You could choose your specialization in the last year. You can then opt for a masters degree or begin working. Choice is yours.
To secure admission in the 5 years course, you would have to appear for CLAT, held by the national institute of LAW.
Option 2: You could complete your Graduation in any stream and then opt for a degree in LAW, which is of 3 years duration. Students who opt for this particular option, can combine their Graduation degree with either CS or CA, mainly CS, as it also covers aspects of LAW, and can help the student further while pursuing LAW
After completing LAW graduation, you could opt for a masters degree or begin to work. Preferably working and gaining experience is essential as it would have a long term impact than immediately pursuing a masters degree.
Hope thsi helps.
Wish you good luck...
Dear Aspirant,
Nice to know your aspiration to study Law. However please let me know which education level you are in? Whether 12th or graduate?
To study Law and practice as a Lawyer, you first need to become a Law graduate from a recognised Univeristy and an Institute approved by Bar Council of India.
1. If you are in 12th or passed 12th any stream, you can choose to go for BA LLB or BBA LLB. This would be a five years integrated course where you will become a graduate as well as law graduate. For this you may have to appear for an entrance test conducted by the concerned university or institute approved by Bar Council of India. You can also appear for CLAT Exam which is regarded for admission to National Law Universities in India.
2. If you are a graduate any stream, you can enrol yourself for three years LLB course. This also may have entrance test but generally no.
Career in Law is a good choice if you are sure that you have the skills required and are ready to build on more.
Later you may also do LLM in a subject like Labour Laws, Constitutional Law, IPR, Cyber Law, etc.
Best wishes
