Hello Smayra,

Interesting question. Please note, entrance exams generally tests a students logical ability and his presence of mind required to be successful in all fields. Mainly stressing on the reasoning capacity of the person.

As such to gauge students logical or reasoning skill, one does not need to study a particular subject. Though not denying that due to being from the non math background, you may face a little difficulty but it wont be impossible.

Join classes and get to know the concepts thoroughly. Once the concepts are understood, practice will help you strengthen the core. Please note quantitative sections are nothing but are based on the basic concepts and applications one has studied at the school level.

Dont loose hope, be confident and alert. Keep practicing. You will be able to crack CAT.

Hope this helps.

Wish you good luck...

Dear Aspirant,

Good question and this is a common question among many.

I would not say that non math background students cannot score well in CAT, however as per the statistics available about the admission to the IIMs, math competent aspirants like Engineers make it more to the IIMs.

Non math background does not mean that you will not be able to get high percentile which is necessary to get admitted to the IIMs, however you will have to ensure that you get a good coaching class support. Going to a coaching institute will help you practice, get guidance and build confidence which is necessary for the CAT exam. By regular practice, and dedication you will be able to master the math skills.

If you decide, you will be able to do it.

Best wishes
