Hello Thanmaya,
Very very good. It gives me a good feeling, when students are clear what they wish to pursue.
I am sure, you are aware that IAS or civil services can be pursued only after one graduates. A graduation in any field whether science or ARTS or commerce.
So since you are in the science stream, you can go ahead and pursue your graduation in the same stream itself. As such there is no specific subject criteria for these exams. But please note the civil service exam has one subject related exam, whereby the subject you choose, thorough knowledgein that subject is a must. It is generally an objective kind of question.
So you could choose science related subject there. Note you could take up another subject like history or political sciences during preparations for the exams. As said by students they find those subjects easier. I would advise, check the UPSC website and if possible meet students preparing for the exam and get this clarified. You could visit a nearby coaching class.
In terms of preparations though you have a long time to go, but still would suggest build up the reading habit and also trying to converse on those topics. Not debate but putting your point across. Being witty is also important.
Hope this helps.
Wish you good luck..
Dear Aspirant,
I really appreciate your timely thinking for your future career. Having an ambition for becoming an IAS is really good. Now that you are in the 12th Science stream, focus more on the percentage in 12th PCM or PCB or PCMB combination you may have chosen. After 12th you may continue with the Science stream and choose a course which you like and interests you. For this, you can take help of the Ideal Career Test from CareerGuide.cm. This is an online psychometric test which will help you know which career is suitable to you according to your aptitude, interests, innate skills nad capabilities.
For IAS, minimum graduation is mandatory. Therefore there is no specific course which will help you make an IAS. Even Engineers, Doctors, MBAs, clear the IAS exam.
You can enrol yourself in a good coaching institute for IAS preparation after you reach the first year of graduation studies. If you prepare for three years under guidance of experts, you will definitely clear the IAS exam.
Best wishes
