Here it seems you have already chosen what you wish to do in future, atleast for your Graduation, but a common issue you are facing is Parental concern.
You would have to understand here, that every parent looks out for security of their child. And no doubt Media is a volatile and a short term field. Today you are the top, tomorrow someone else with better potentials and young and fresh minds would replace you.
Media is the only field which rows reverse. Grey hair is not considered experience like in other industries.
But I am sure that with your confidence in your self, you would definitely make a niche for yourself.
Since you are planning to study mass-media, ultimately it is not much connected with science nor commerce, so best would be to take Humanities, since ART being an abstract course, will help you in further studies and thinking. Also you would have more time to prepare for the entrance exams.
Now coming to the point of parental pressure. It would be advisable that you have a one to one with your parents. But before that, dont get into the argument just for the sake of it.Firstly prepare a " Goal Plan" and then reason out how would you achieve your plan.
Then go ahead and discuss it with your parents.
Unless and until you are full proofed, Parents would be in-secured. So first get your reasons in place and then reason out with them.
In the long run, if you are unable to convince them, then best would be to take Science as an option and then may be seeing you struggle they would change their mind.
But don't loose hope, gather facts and not emotional facts, but facts that would help you sustain in the industry and the discuss oi out with your parents.
Wish you good luck...............
Dear Aspirant,
I can understand how parental pressure cannot be handled confidently.
I am very happy to know that you wish to follow your heart and you already know what you are made up for in career. Your parents may be right, since they may not be exposed to the new career avenues which are promising, lucrative and progressive.I have a suggestion for you. You should take the Psychometric Career Assessment from CareerGuide and I am sure that the result will clearly show your inclination towards Humanities and Mass Media / Communication. You then need to show the Report of the Test to your parents and tell them the importance of the scientific test you have undergone and which also suggests that you will be able to make career in Humanities and not in Science.
To be best sure of what suits you for your career, I would suggest you to undergo an online psychometric test from CareerGuide which will help you understand yourself in respect of your strengths, weaknesses, emotional quotient, etc. and will exactly tell you which stream is good for you.
Best wishes,
Dr. Anand Wadadekar
