Hi There,First of all thanks for consulting careerguide.comA very interesting question.
Its like saying I wish to write but I have no ideas.
I agree that you wont be working as a Journalists, who writes an article. Your job is to edit the write-up. But even to edit an article, how will you know what has to be kept and what has to be edited or left out.
Hence knowledge of all fields around you is a must.
And cutting the long story short, before you take the role of an editor, you need to begin as a Journalist. And to play a Journalists, general awareness is very very important.
As they say " A pen is mightier than a Sword", which clearly means that you are the bridge between the news and the audiences.
What you write, should make sense to your readers, but at the same time, must follow and maintain the sentiments of the reader. That is the role of an editor.
Hope this answers your query.
Wish you good luck................
Dear Aspirant,
Editor is a person and position which greatly demands mastery in general awareness and mastery in few core subjects.
An Editor is a person who writes as a spokesperson of a particular media and hence his / her views should be well informed, knowledgeable and unbiased. To have and develop views and opinions which are well informed, knowledgeable and unbiased, the primary requirement is to have excellent general awareness. Having general awareness is the basic need of an Editor position.
I myself have been writing for more than 13 years now and have been an editor in the advisory role for many magazines and websites, relating to finance, economics and career. I can tell you that the only top skill which an Editor requires is general awareness and further an interpretation of the same.
To be best sure of what suits you for your career, I would suggest you to undergo an online psychometric test from CareerGuide which will help you understand yourself in respect of your strengths, weaknesses, emotional quotient, etc. and will exactly tell you which stream is good for you.
Best wishes,
Dr. Anand Wadadekar
