I am a MBBS graduate. I want to work in the UK after doing my specialization from India only. what are my options?

I want to do my PG and post PG from India and then work in the UK for around 5yrs and then come back. What are my options. Are there any other countries I should think of for working for a few years with a good pay package?

Hi, if you are looking at going to UK with your MBBS degree then, you can appear for the PLAB exams conducted by the General Medical Council,UK. On clearing the exam you can apply to various posts in UK including NHS

. If you plan to go there after your MD/MS then its a little easier. You will onlyneed to get an assessment done by the GMC and then appear for the interview. This would help you become a Specialist Health Practitioner in the United Kingdom.

Hi,

As you have indicated that you want to proceed with your higher studies in the UK, this is the procedure.
1. You should consider writing IELTS exam and have a score of above 7.0 on a 9.0 scale. You will have four scetions in this exam: listening, speaking, writing, reading. Your individual score with each of these sections have to be above 5.5. You can register for this test on www.ielts.org website or contact the local British council office in your city for registering.

  1. You should have your certificates of your MBBS degree with individual semester mark sheets. Scan or make them into PDF copies and you will have to upload them on the University website. As you are applying for a PG, you can directly send the certificates to the universities through their online application portal. It os only for the UG's you will have to go through UCAS system.

  2. Statement of purpose: This is a personal statement that explains your intentions in studying this program and how it will help your future plans. You should also describe your background in this letter. This letter shouldn't be of more than two pages in length when typed on MS word with 1.5 line space between.

  3. Letters of recommendation: You should obtain two letters of recommendation from your college professors on their letter head, scan and upload them on the online application system.

With these documents, you are good to submit a PG application. Beyond all this, you should be very careful in choosing the right PG course you may want to study. After your PG, you will have four months time to be in the UK to search for a job.

If you do not want to study the PG, then you may apply for PLAB exams in the UK and of you clear them then you are eligible for applying for medical jobs in the UK. For more details on PLAB, please visit this website: http://www.gmc-uk.org/doctors/plab.asp
