Pharmacy is an allied medical profession and it is indeed a reputable and highly recognisable career both in India and abroad. Especially pharmacy careers are well established in India due to its excellent medical facilities and resources. As a BPharm student, you can either graduate and go into pharmacy related careers or consider studying Master of Pharmacy. M.Pharm is a two year professional degree similar to ME/MTech courses. It does qualify you for highly responsible careers both in hospital, industries and research. I shall brief in here on the type of careers one can pursue with a degree in BPharm or MPharm. There is not much difference between these two career pathways as both degrees will help students land up within the pharma sector as either at entry level or a little senior level.

Students are likely to land up in six sectors like hospitals, community, pharmaceuticals industry, private clinics , public health sector and academic teaching and research at universities. Finally lets consider the career opportunities a Pharmacy degree can give you. As explained a pharmacist will work in either of these six sectors mentioned as above, but to go a little in-depth, a pharmacist role is split as either at a clinical setting or at a corporate/ industry level. A clinical setting job is always at hospitals, private dispensaries, private health clinics, pharmacy shops and public health sector. Where as a corporate role will give a job in pharmaceutical industry as a pharmacist, pharma technician pharma marketing, pharma advertising, pharma retail manager and professional services. Students can also consider working at educational institutions as a lecturer, professor or researcher in their interested area of research in pharma. The next level of degree will be PhD Pharmacology. For a PhD admission, Masters degree in pharmacy plus UGC-NET, CSIR scores are required. Completing a PhD Pharmacology, you are a Doctorate can pursue your own research on medicines.
What is B.Pharm M.Pharm?
The abbreviation M.Pharm stands for Master of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Pharmacy. Both the B.Pharm and M.Pharm degrees are offered as part of this integrated dual degree programme. Bachelor of Pharmacy is referred to as B.Pharm. Master of Pharmacy is abbreviated as M.Pharm. Candidates who are interested in applying must have completed their 10+2 in physics , chemistry, and biology from an accredited board. B.Pharma Students in the M.Pharm. programme have all the theoretical knowledge and practical experience required to succeed in the pharmaceutical industry.
