Hello there

Thank you for choosing CareerGuide.com and writing to us. Pharmacy is an allied medical profession and it is indeed a reputable and highly recognisable career both in India and abroad. Especially pharmacy careers are well established in India due to its excellent medical facilities and resources. As a BPharm student, you can either graduate and go into pharmacy related careers or consider studying Master of Pharmacy. M.Pharm is a two year professional degree similar to ME/MTech courses. It does qualify you for highly responsible careers both in hospital, industries and research.

I shall brief in here on the type of careers one can pursue with a degree in BPharm or MPharm. There is not much difference between these two career pathways as both degrees will help students land up within the pharma sector as either at entry level or a little senior level.

So lets say why consider a Pharmacy degree?
The above pictogram will help you understand well, why study a degree in Pharmacy and how reputable the careers are with its offer. Apart from this, lets understand where students are likely to work with a pharmacy degree. Students are likely to land up in six sectors like hospitals, community, pharmaceuticals industry, private clinics, public health sector and academic teaching and research at universities.

Finally lets consider the career opportunities a Pharmacy degree can give you. As explained a pharmacist will work in either of these six sectors mentioned as above, but to go a little in-depth, a pharmacist role is split as either at a clinical setting or at a corporate/ industry level. A clinical setting job is always at hospitals, private dispensaries, private health clinics, pharmacy shops and public health sector. Where as a corporate role will give a job in pharmaceutical industry as a pharmacist, pharma technician pharma marketing, pharma advertising, pharma retail manager and professional services. Students can also consider working at educational institutions as a lecturer, professor or researcher in their interested area of research in pharma. To give you a big picture of the types of careers you can pursue, please see the attached picture here.

Students can also opt to study further after a Masters degree in Pharmacy. The next level of degree will be PhD Pharmacology. For a PhD admission, Masters degree in pharmacy plus UGC-NET, CSIR scores are required. Completing a PhD Pharmacology, you are a Doctorate can pursue your own research on medicines.

Hope this briefing helps. All the best.
