Hi Pragyasha,

Please note, the major difference between a BA and a B.Sc in Psychology is that, a science student would study psychology and science related subjects like biology, anatomy etc, whereas a BA student would study psychology and ARTS related subject like logic, sociology etc.

As far as the scope of clinical psychology is concerned, as old by the above counselor, a student would be considered eligible as a Clinical psychologists to certify a client suffering from mental health issue, the psychologist, needs to be RCI recognised / registered, for which she must be an M.Phil qualified.

If not, then after an MA or M.Sc, you would be a generalised counselor, who could conduct test, but the reports needs to be certified by a Clinical psychologists ( RCI recognised ) or a Psychiatrists.

Or else after a masters degree, you could work in the field of therapies and testing. You have opportunities in:

  • Clinics
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing homes
  • Rehabilitation centres
  • Schools
  • Private practice

As far as pursuing the course is concerned, Amity is good till graduation. After that, you could try NIMHANS, one of the best for clinical psychology studies.

Please note, apart from just a degree or qualification, it would be good if you get yourself knowledgeable with other therapies or techniques like:

  • Hypnotherapy
  • NLP
  • Reiki
  • Special education
  • Learning disability techniques

Hope this helps.

Wish you good luck...

Dear Aspirant,

Good question. Nice to know your interest in Clinical Psychology.

I would suggest a BA and MA in Clinical Psychology. You will need to shift from Science stream to Arts stream based on your 12th Science marks in aggregate.

Getting the RCI certification is mandatory for being able to practice as a Clinical Psychologist. However, with MA Clinical Psychology you can get associated with schools, colleges, hospitals, orphanages, etc.

Scope for Clinical Psychologists is extremely good in India as well abroad with job opportunities as well as scope for private practice.

Best wishes
