Hi Nikhil,
Interesting question.
Online management is related to the role a Public relations ( PR) officer plays.
Just like how the PR promotes the organization to the masses either by pulling out advertisements or through pamphlets or through a famous personality.Similarly Online reputation, is promoting yourself if working individually rather as a freelancer or if you are the CEO of the organization.
When we wish to know about a person or an organization, we cannot directly ask the person or the organization. we rely on the reviews found online. Thus we type in a name of the person on say GOOGLE and complete information is presented to us. Sometimes we my also see notifications and or pictures that can be detrimental to the persons image, and they are posted by unknown people who wish to damage the reputation of the person.
Though every time monitoring is required and immediately deleting these contents is a must. But sometimes we may not have the time and that one moment can cause maximum harm. That is where we need to scrutinize what content we wish displayed This is where the Online reputation manager steps in.
They are the ones who regularly monitor the content and ta the same time, restricts certain feedback which must not be visible to others.
And since we are talking about searching information online, through GOOGLE or YAHOO which are search engines. Thus this person must have knowledge about SEO.
Though SEO is also into building or developing a website, and at that time they develop the website in a way that no one can intrude into the customers privacy. But sometimes materials not needed can be displayed and at that time the PR person or the marketing person, has to cut those matters out.
For this he or she needs to have knowledge regarding SEO.Thus an SEO could work as a Online reputation manager. But needs knowledge about the marketing techniques, as they need to reach out to masses. At the same time, they do cover up courses related to web designing, illustrations, software applications, coral draw etc.

Wish you good luck......
Dear Aspirant,
Very good question.
Online Reputation management is not related to SEO exactly.
SEO helps in increasing the reach, but fundamentally and the raw material required for SEO is 'information, data, work, products, services".
Companies are very conscious about their 'brand' - online and offline. Offline brand building means supplying and giving quality products and services, advertising, etc. Online brand building is critical now and it means spreading the right information about the brand and products and services through the online media.
The departments of HR and PR & Media are involved in brand management for a company - online and offline.
SEO is just a tool to maximise the reach and online reputation of a brand and company.
Best wishes
Dear aspirant,
SEO and ORM (online reputation management) are different.
SEO is mainly social media marketing while ORM is brand management. ORM may include SEO but SEO does not include ORM. ORM includes three important processes: (1) reducing online negative reviews, (2) building online reputation and (3) maintain online reputation.
Hope this clarifies your doubt.
