Hi Mudit,
This is one of the biggest dilemmas of a person’s life where the person does not know what is good for him or her or what is the best suited career path. In this case I would suggest you to take the Ideal Career Test at CareerGuide.com after giving this test you will get a brief report about your aptitude, interest, motivation and personality which will help you to discover the right career path for your future.
Also, do a research on the career option that you think of opting. See what work you are required to do in that field and then decide as to if you are comfortable doing that job or not and after deciding what you want to opt for try to convince your parents for allowing you to do that course.
Dear Aspirant,
I can understand what you must be feeling and at the same time you also do not wish to discourage your parents. However always remember that ultimately you are the person who will be doing the course and it is important to do that course with full confidence, faith and energy.
I think you should speak to your parents first of what are your personal interests in terms of your career. Tell them that today being an engineer is not the only option to have a good salary and status. Are your parents also from the engineering background?
Which level of education are you currently? Have you appeared for 10th or 12th? If you tell me this, I will be more clear for me to help you.
I would suggest that you take the Ideal Career Test from CareerGuide.com. This is a psychometric test which measures your aptitude, emotional quotient, interests, attitude, etc. The report gets instantly generated and will give you few career options best suited to you.
If the report does not suggest Engineering as a suitable option for you, then you can show that to your parents and tell them that you have assessed your career options scientifically and it will be a waste of time, energy and money if you do engineering, since you will not be able to become a good engineer.
I would request yo to call me up from this system after taking the test and I shall also speak to your parents.
In order to post replies to the question: "My parents want me to be an engineer and I don’t know what is good for me. What should I do?"
