Hello,

Thank you for writing to us. From your inquiry, I see you could pass the basic eligible criteria to be able to apply for a PhD in India. However I am skeptical on whether you are truly passionate about doing a PhD. You have mentioned as a five year gap and could you please be clear about it? Were you off the workforce in the last five years and is it because of that you are considering a PhD?

Doing a PhD is a wise decision but it is not as easy as you think. PhD is not a cake walk at all, and it isn't like just any other course or degree on the Earth. It is an intense program where a person needs to be very studious and dedicated through out the journey. As part of your PhD in Management subject, you need to review the existing Business and Management literature and identify gap in existing theoretical knowledge. There on you propose a theory to support the identified gap and also prove it through some empirical research. So doing all this within three years requires a lot of dedication and undivided attention. I'm explaining this to you, only to help you understand PhD journey is not an easy walk but a trekking on an uphill. Beyond all this, if you are truly passionate of reading a PhD, then you have to be definitely appreciated for this decision.

PhD Management is offered by almost all colleges in India and within Noida, Amity Business school is a bit popular. To apply for Amity, a basic under graduation with 60% and a Masters including the MBA with a 60% will help. Apart from this, Amity proposes students to have already scored a CAT score or have passed UGC NET exam. With these scores or eligibility in hand, you can apply for Amity. If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited for a day interview where you will go through written exams and face to face interview.

Apart from Amity you can apply for other famous universities in and around Delhi. And the top ranked ones are IIT Delhi, FMS Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia University. If you are happy to move out of Delhi to read your PhD, ISB Hyderabad, IIM and IIT's throughout India will be the best options. Hope this helps. All the best.

Dear PhD Aspirant,

Please let me make you aware that PhD in Management will be helpful in teaching and research field only and not in the corporate industry.

Hope you are sure that you want to get into the teaching field or research field by doing a PhD.

Can you please tell us what were you doing in the five year gap? How did you arrive at PhD career option?

Since you are MBA you are eligible for PhD. You will have to give the PhD Entrance Test of a University, face the interview and do a presentation on your subject topic.
Generally it takes 4-5 years to complete PhD under a good Guide.

Best wishes
