Interesting question, but truly difficult to answer.

Saturation or recession hits an industry when there is a demand but no man power to match with the requirement or there is no demand but heavy manpower.
Interpreters & Translators
As such the role of an interpreter is mainly into industries like:
  • Airlines
  • Hotels
  • Foreign Embassy
  • Teaching
  • Beauty Pageants
  • Diplomats / Bureaucrats
  • Education industry
  • Media
Majorly interpreters are required in thew above mentioned industry.

When I speak of the education or teaching, the role involves teaching foreign languages, as well as translate the script from one language to other so that it can be universally understood.Even Media requires an interpreter. Translating scripts mainly ancient scripts that are found to make it into a story or even during interview of important personnel you require a translator.

In airlines, when someone flies to another destination, the airport and hotels is the only place where he could communicate. Again we need an interpreter, since the individual may not know the particular language, so someone must be there to ease his communication.

Every other day we hear politicians or IAS or IPS or bureaucrats travelling to a foreign country. They visit a lot of countries around the world for matter pertaining to business or development of the country. So it is next to impossible to learn all languages and that too in a short period of time. At that time there is a translator or an interpreter who goes along with such personnel, to make their job easy and helps communication.
Interpreters & Translators

Another place we see an interpreter is during beauty pageants both males and females. As the participants are from varied countries across the world as well as the judges, we need interpreters to carry the communication of the participants to the judges and vice-versa.

So as you see from the above, the job of an interpreter is in all industry and globally.
Please note that, not everyone who learns a foreign language can become or is interested in becoming an interpreter.
It is a highly valued job.

To be successful interpreter, few qualities required in the person would be:
  • Knowledge of all possible languages
  • Knowledge on fine and minute words used in the languages
  • Knowledge of the industry you wish to work at
  • Charming personality
  • Analytic ability
  • Communication capacity
  • Love for languages and people
