Well Pradeep, while getting into engineering course one must always collect information about the various branches that are studied and offers a specialisations in engineering. One must also should know about the subjects that can be studied in the respective specialisation course. while taking an admission in a particular engineering one should consider his/her area of interest in which subject they have and accordingly one should go for the engineering course.

So answering your question here is the difference between Civil and Mechanical Engineering.

1.Civil Engineering-
It includes Planning,Designing and executing structural work.It deals with a wide range of engineering tasks which include designing, supervision and construction activities of public works like roads, bridges, tunnels, buildings, airports etc. A civil engineer is responsible for planning and designing a project, constructing the project to the required scale, and maintenance of the project. Civil Engineering is one of the oldest engineering discipline after military engineering. It is broken into several sub-disciplines including environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, water resources engineering, coastal engineering, material engineering, surveying and construction engineering.

Job Profile-
They deal with the design ,construction and maintenance of infrastructure such as building, bridges, roads, dams, tunnels, river and shipping lanes, industrial and power plants.

Core Subjects-

  • Surveying
  • Strength of Materials
  • Building Technology
  • Structural Analysis & Design
  • Design of Hydraulic structures
  • Architecture and town planning

Top Recruiters-

  • DMRC
  • Jaiprakash Associates
  • Jaypee
  • Reliance Infra
  • L&T

2.Mechanical Engineering

It is one of the prominent engineering branch which include the application of laws of physics for designing, analysing and manufacturing of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that uses mechanical and heat power for the operation of tools and machines, production and designing tasks. They design and assemble engines and power plants, structures and vehicles of all sizes.

Core Subjects-

  • Engineering Mathematics
  • Fluid Mechanics
  • Mechanical Drawing
  • Metallurgy and Material Science
  • Strength of Materials and Structural Engg,
  • Hydraulic Machines
  • Electrical technology
  • Mechnatronics and Control Systems
  • Mechanics of Material
  • Dynamics of Machinery
  • Automobile Engineering
  • Production Planning and Control

Job Profiles-

They can work as Junior Engineers, researcher,Executive Engineer,Independent Consultants,Mechanical/Sales Engineer,Lecturer and assistant engineer.

Pradeep as you have not mentioned your area of interest its difficult to tell you which course you should go for but both the engineering have a very immense career opportunities respectively in their fields. While you can go through the subjects of the courses and its nature of work as given above and than you can decide which course to apply depending on your area of interest. Or you can also go for Mera career guides Engineering Branch Selector test to get a proper insight.

Hope you find the information helpful and useful.
