Dear Tanvi,
It depends on the job profile that you have. If one is into sales, then the Marketing Manager (MM, for short) will lead a sales team. Be responsible for the team members to achieve their targets. Maybe help them out with some tough or big-ticket customers. Send reports to the higher authorities. Review Sales Pitches and strategies. Attend meetings for forecasting sales and reviewing sales. May need to make presentations to customers and also to top management.
But if the MM is into Product development; then he/she will be a one-point contact for all the queries that might crop from the sales team about the product. He will also train the sales team about the product, its features benefits etc. He will also provide info on competitive products. 50% of his/her time will be on doing research and balance 50% will be about interacting with the people. In a rare case; he may accompany the sales team for making a presentation on the product.
Like his; there may be many job profiles suitable to a MM. He/she may be involved in Market Research or test marketing, launch of a product etc. The few qualities that a MM will require are as follows:
1) Should be presentable, affable and of a smiling disposition
2) Should be a people's person; means should love meeting new people and enjoy the process.
3) Should be extremely good in communication skills. Both spoken and written.
4) Should be able to design, create and make powerful presentations
5) Should be a go-getter and a target oriented person.
6) Should have ability to work under severe pressure or stress.
The awards and rewards are also great for a successful MM. She/he will be an asset to any organization.
Hope, that answers your query.
All the very best;
Vinay Wardhan.
