Hello!

Thank you for choosing Meracareerguide and writing to us. It is certain for English language students to get confused to choose the right career for them. But please be informed, careers in English are diverse with tremendous opportunities.

To help you give you an idea on the type of careers you may opt for, I attach a flow chart for you.

I shall give you a brief idea on the type of work you may be required to do on each type of careers listed in here.

Translator: You could perform translating services for books or other reading materials that are published in languages other than English. You could certainly find jobs in translation services sector or publishing companies in general. You can also find your love for literature by doing translation services specific to literature subjects.

Medical secretary/ School secretary/ College secretary: You can find employment as a secretary for a school/ college/ hospital. But on the longer run, there are certain professional qualifications that may require you take like the corporate secretaryship if you are planning to focus on secretary roles at the corporate.

Editor: You could work as an editor for national and international newspapers editing articles that come for submission. You may also choose to opt for literature specific article editorial work but it largely depends on the magazines or newspapers to allocate literature oriented works for you.

Columnist: If you are passionate about literature, you could appear as a columnist for newspapers and magazines to write about the literature you like.

Actor: This is certainly the area you might love as you have stated on your query. But it requires to sharpen your communication skills to be an actor with own voice. You may also pick up theatre artist roles that has ancient mark.

Public relations officer: This role involves a lot of writing about the company to its employees and the public. It does require public appearances too which you will enjoy. But may have little to do with literature works.

Proof reader: As the name suggests, you will proof read for errors on the articles submitted to you. Literature background is also necessary to these roles as you may have to proof read related articles at times.

Barrister: This role hasn't got much to do with literature but being spontaneous with English vocabulary skills is highly essential here. Apart from English degree, it does require you to study law to be an advocate.

Journalist: as you may know this role hasn't got so much to work with literature but fluency in English language is the key. For your interest in literature, this may not suit you.

Publisher: This role may help you achieve your career goals towards literature. You can specifically choose to publish works on literature.

English teacher: You can work at school and colleges to do teaching in literature. If you prefer working at school, a Masters degree is sufficient. If you also have an B.Ed. or a NET lectureship score, teaching at colleges could be possible. Alternatively if you want to take it big, choose to do a PhD in literature and work at colleges after your Doctorate.

Administrator: This role is applicable with all industries including the hospitals, education sector and the MNC's. It may have nothing to do with the literature but English communication is the key here.

Librarian: You can choose to work as a Librarian as again here speaking fluently in English is essential. There are some scope to be a librarian taking care of the literature section.

Broadcaster: As a Broadcaster English may be a mandatory element to support your career but has less to bring in literature into the role.

Author: Well, this could be very apt for you as you may write books on the literature you love.

Technical writer: You could work on jobs like content writing, SEO articles and expecting articles only on literature may be a bit tedious. However if you are open to write other articles, just for your love in English, you could do well here.

TV Director: You could perform shows for TV's that require proficiency in English and doing literature specific programs may also be ideal.

I hope the briefing above helps you and I would advice you to carefully choose the roles that gives you more importance to the literature element. All the best.
