Hello Sukhamani,

Happy new year and Pray that this year brings to you a lot of happiness and success all through your way.

Before I answer your question, I would like to ask you a question, Do you have any idea what does an Economists do, or rather the role or responsibilities of an Economists???

Let me here begin by answering the above asked question.

An economists is the one who predicts the future of a company in terms of their investments in layman's terms.
Basically an economists study, does research and predicts and evaluates business and revenue trends of an industry.
They are mainly the Financial advisory or financial Analysts.

Now this kind of a job would definitely require majorly 2 things:
Logic / Analytic ability
Math.
Economist
As prediction and analysis would depend on reading the companies financial records, which definitely requires Mathematical knowledge and then comes in the brain of the Economists.
They need to then analyse the situation using their analytic ability.

Though Math is the primary requirement, but please do note that Math is just the base. The most important part here is the persons own analysis or understanding of the report.

Hope here you have a clear idea what is required from you in terms of being a successful Economists.

Now coming to your question.

Yes. Math is a must for studying economics in future.
It would be good if you could speak to your management and include Math in you course.

Or else, are you studying Economics in the 12th, then also you can pursue economics in the Graduation stream.

Most important, you ought to remember is that more than Math, statistics is important, as Statistic will help you to analyse the market.
The reason we say Math is important in 12th, is primarily because the basics of Statistics is covered, and during your Graduation, you would be studying the advance part of it.
Also to specialise in Economics in Graduation, colleges check the basic qualification or subjects you studied in 12th. Please note that colleges have a system, whereby you begin your 1st year, but simultaneously you would have to appear for the 12th Math subject, if you have not studied Math during 12th and the preparation of this exam is all by yourself.

So better take a wise decision.

Hope this answers your query.

Wish you good luck.............
