Hello My Dear...

LLB is a great qualification to acquire and goes a big way to become a lawyer/advocate. With increasing complexities of business within the nation and across the border, the importance of 'law' has been increasing and so the importance and need of legal professionals in India and abroad.

I am glad that you decided to approach CareerGuide.com for seeking guidance to your wonderful query which is very genuine and aptly asked.

As mentioned earlier LLB is a great qualification to acquire and legal professionals are in great demand now in corporates, businesses, etc.

If you wish to become a Lawyer / Advocate, in India as per the rules of Bar Counsil of India, an LLB degree is mandatory. It is mandatory to practice or serve as a Lawyer or Advocate or Counsel.

Apart from LLB, there is no allowed and approved course or degree which makes a person authorised to work and serve as a Lawyer or Advocate or Counsel in India.

Apart from LLB/LLM, there are courses offered by National Law School of India Universities (NLSIU) like Masters in Business Laws (MBL), etc., however doing this course does not mean that a person is a lawyer or advocate.

To work in corporate legal departments, MBAl is also done by many but they have no interest in becoming a lawyer and pleading in court of law. MBL is also a fantastic course with strong curriculum and recognition and can be done through distance learning mode.

Therefore My Dear, if you really have interest in litigations, liasoning, pleading as an advocate in the court of Law, then I would strongly recommend you to go for LLB from a recognised University and the college which is approved by Bar Council of India.

If you wish to serve in the legal departments, then I would say yes to courses like MBL, but now adays there is also growingnew avenues in law like Cyber Law, IPR Law, etc. There are short terms courses on these also in NLSIU or local reputed Institutes.

Best Luck

Dear Friend,

According to the Bar Council of India...only those who have obtained a degree of LLB can enrolled as an Advocate to the Bar Council, so naturally in order to become a Corporate Lawyer you need an LLb Degree. In this field there is no short cuts, you have to pass LLB if you want to become an Advocate.

You can not become a Corporate Lawyer untill and unless you have an LLB Degree.

Further, there is a way out of this...if you want to do what corporate advocates do then there is a way but its tuff and in that case you can appear before the courts too...you can plead..

You can become a Company Secretory. Because most of the work of a Corporate Lawyer is very much similar to the CS. What CS mainely does is to see the work of a compliance where they need to make sure that the related laws of that particular fields are applied to the company standards or not...generally Corporate Advocates also does the same thing but in addition to this they appear before the courts for the hearing and they have a right to reprent the company before the court which right CS does not have.

In order to become a CS you need to to be very focused because becoming CS is very tuff comparitively to become a Corporate Lawyer because it coveres mainely everuthing related to the company related laws.

I would personally suggest you if you think you want to become a Corpoarte Lawyer, then please join LLB because, that is the only best way to become a successful Corporate Lawyer. In CS you will be learning many things which are not majorly related to the Law fields.

There are many good National LAw Universities as well as Colleges in India from where you can do LLB. and now a days in your final year the companies come to the College or to the University for onsite campus recruitment where you might get a chanse to be selected.

Overall if we see the best way to become a Corporate LAwyer is to go through the LLB.

Best of luck,

Ravi
