Hello Student ,

It's good that you are seeking professional guidance and career counseling before taking any step which may have a remark on your career. You have selected a very good field of study and electrical engineering opens upto wide growth opportunities as well. Plus you have power plant experience which again isa diverse and growing field. Your power plant experience combined with electrical engineering opens upnumerous opportunities for you in solar power, nuclear power, hydel and thermal power plants, power generation and transmission, electrical equipment manufacturing, switch gear industry,,,etc.. It is one of the fastest growing fields which amalgamates power, electronics and communication, control systems and computer engineering as well with wide scope of applicability. We have corporate giants like Siemens, Godrej, Reliance, Larsen and Toubro, etc. who recruit lots of candidates every year and demand projection is also quite high.

What motivates you to make a switch to IT sector like TCS, Infosys Wipro ? is it the compensation factor, or the corporate learning and development over there? you will get much benefits like time to time training and development programs, foreign tours, chance to work with the vibrant population and good performance linked incentives and growth,..... , but only if you have the right skills for the job and are able to sustain the initial heat. It may appear quite difficult and boring also with out formal training and knowledge. It would also be like again starting from the scratch. Don't get carried away bypay packages and otheradvertised benefits. We always hear cases of lay offs and terminations due to unmatched skills and job requirements. Every field has its own merits and limitations.

It is better to be committed to one track or other, rather than making a switch, just because you feel your destiny is there. How about moving into a different head under the same field, for example, moving R&D research and design sector, where you can use your education and computer and software fundamentals as well. It will provide training and hands on experience in programming and designing using computers to your stream of study. Or you can apply in software companies which designs software solutions for electrical and related industries.

Look before you leap, weigh both the aspects and then finally decide.

Hope this answers your query. Still have queries? Feel free to revert...

All the best...
