Dear Aspirant, i believe that you are doing a degree of commerce or you already have it. By having commerce degree in your hand, i am afraid, that will not help you to become a dietician. To become a dietician something other you have to do. Let me explain you what is a dietician and nutritionist; A dietician or nutritionist deals with the people and inform and guide them about the diet they should improve their general or overall health and to avoid some common disease and to keep control on existing health health ailments.
Dieticians guide people on healthy eating habits and they draw the personalized food plan of their customer, that meets the patients or customers dietary restrictions, occupational or professional constraints stress and fitness levels without any side effects. On the other hand the nutritionist studies the effect of food (on human beings) and their effect of temperature, processing, storage, transportation and environmental factors.
Now what are the prerequisite to become a dietician that you should have interest in fitness, health and food. You should also know about different types of foods, that should be of low calories, low fat and should be palatable and easily available in the market. So that you can guide your patients or different individuals as per their requirements.

Other skills which could be added advantageous to you could be market know how, interpersonal skills and time management.
After passing intermediate or 10+2 one has to study science subjects, such as food and nutrition, food science and food technology. After passing graduate degree in any one of the above subject a masters degree in Nutrition is required. After having post graduation degree for your betterment a doctoral degree will certainly add feather in your cap. You have to also appear in RD exams to become a registered dietician.
Now form where you can get this degree, there are many universities in India offering B.Sc in food science, nutrition and food technology. Mainly college of home science in any university are running these courses. Some universities are also offering diploma courses in nutrition and dietician,
The field of dietician is a growing and demanding field and the opportunities are endless.

Dear aspirant

Nice to see your interest to become a dietician. But i see you are currently a commerce student right? With this commerce background what influenced your mind to study dietician? Dietician is actually a science subject where as commerce is an arts subject. I am just wondering how you will cope up studying in two different streams and also i am wondering if colleges will admit you to study a dietician course with a commerce background at post graduate level.

Let me explain you why you wont be suitable for a dietician course. To become a dietician in future, students should compulsorily study science at 10th class and also have definitely studied PCB Physics chemistry and Biology at 12th level. You can also come from Physics chemistry biology and maths PCMB route, and no problem with that. Whatever biology and chemistry are compulsory subjects at 12th class. After completing schooling with these subjects, you can study a related discipline at Bsc level and certainly you can choose to study BSc Food science/ Bsc Food and dietician/ BSc Nutrition and dietics course. As said to become a dietician, it is compulsory to study biology and chemistry at school and also study a related discipline at Bsc level. Dieticians also get license and most countries practice this license for approving a person as a dietician and for this the basic eligibility criteria i mentioned here are important. Completing this BSc you can choose to do MSc level in the related discipline and also a PhD in food science and technology.

With a commerce background therefore it may not be possible for you to study a Dietician course but you can definitely study Home science. Home science involves catering technology, hospitality and management. As you have indicated your interest in home science then you are definitely qualified to study BSc/ MSc in hotel management, home science, catering technology, hotel hospitality management etc. there are many approved institutes in India offering the above subjects and the good news is that most of students also get part time stipend while studying these degrees. Amirta school of hotel management is very famous in south India that offers good stipend for students studying this course. After this course you can work in star hotels and ships and get involved in the concerned department. Switzerland is the best destination for students with this degree worldwide. All the best.
