Hello Prabhu,

Good question. But both the options stated are two different fields with nothing in common.

As such, choosing any one of the profile is purely your choice. It would depend mainly on your personal attributes and knowing the job profile.

Please note an alliance manager works and is engaged towards the smooth functioning of the alliances which have taken place or would take place. He needs to see that all undertakings during the alliances have been followed and if not followed, he insists on it being followed and if the delay persists then report it to the manager. Policy making and managing departments are also part of the job. Hence knowing functioning of different department is essential. This profile requires strong management skills.

In terms of marketing, I am sure you know the job profile. Mainly they are into taking a product manufactured by the company to the masses. This job profile insists on good communication andconvincing skills.

I would suggest do your own research regarding both the profiles and then make a choice.

Wish you good luck...

Dear Aspirant,

Alliances is ultimately a part of Marketing and Sales. Alliances work comes after marketing and sales. Therefore, there is no need to get confused. Marketing is a big picture and alliances is a small picture.

If you are looking to get qualified, then I would suggest that you should do MBA Marketing from a very good Institute. If you are working and have some years of work experience, then doing a distance or executive MBA is recommended.

You can shift to Alliances as and when you feel since after all it is related to marketing and customer relationship management. Getting diversified to CRM is a nice progression. CRM is a critical and Alliances is a part of CRM. CRM is now being given high importance for client retention.

Best wishes

Thank you very much Dr. Anand & Ms. Meghna for your advise.

I am a sales professional with 11 years experience  currently working in Online payment space as Sr.Manager - Alliances and now want to enroll for worthwhile Executive MBA / Management program. But confused with worried a bit about the fees structure.

5 yrs ago I did my Distant MBA program from Sikkim Manipal University & hence unable to scale up in career progression and designation in any company is offered Sr.Manager and not AVP/VP.

Kindly advise.

Dear Aspirant,

Thanks for getting back to me with more clarification.

Now that you are a Sr. Manager, with 11 years of work experience, definitely you can scale up to AVP/VP level. However as I see, to be promoted to AVP/VP level, you are still short of a little more years of experience (may be of four years more).

AVP/VP is a level up from the Sr. Manager and is more into strategy, planning, employee engagement, productivity, ROIs, KPI/KPA and financial resourcing. I think that again an Executive MBA would not help. Now what is more important is to keep gaining experience and keep looking out for opportunities within or outside. You have reached a stage, where education will not matter and help.

Yes, you are right that the management programmes offered by top BSchools run into lakhs, which I suggest you should not opt for. Try asking for sponsorship from your company instead. IF they think you are a talent and worth a big cake, they would sponsor you.

Best wishes
