Hi,If you could dissect out the words:Cyto (cell) + Genetcis = Cyto-geneticsThis indicates you go down into the cell and work with the major intracellular components for example DNA, Chromosome. In Molecular diagnostic is a broad term and it includes various diagnostic approaches at molecular level (detecting hormones, proteins, blood parameters etc.)Even if it looks, both stream may differ, they are pretty much over lapping when it comes to course, syllabi and techniques. You need to have a thorough back ground and training in molecular biology, pathology, cell biology, genetics.
Coming to the scope, I'd say sky is the limit. You could work in both academia and industry. But the specialized training process can help you better to decide where do you wish to work. Lots os molecular biologist, doctors, pathologists work on these intersecting domain.
If you ask for salary, I'd suggest it's fairly rewarding and you earn pretty decent in all these highly specialized domains.
If you ask me which one is better than the other, in a lighter way, can you say which ministry is important, Home Ministry or Defence Ministry? I'd say both are strongly linked and both needs hard work to reach an expert stage.
Thanks.Best,Ajit
Hi There,
There is a thin line of difference between the two fields. Both are the diagnostic tools to detect abnormalities.
Both study chromosomal defects as well as gene mutations.
But the difference lies in the Research area.
In cytogenetics, the reason to study the genetic combination is to reinvent measures to help prevent disorders in future, whereas in Molecular diagnostics, its mainly to detect a factor in the chromosome that leads to a disorder.
Both are laboratory work.
Its for you to decide whether you wish to pursue cytogenetics or molecular diagnostics.Since a B.Sc in genetics can opt for both the courses.
Hope this helps.
Wish you good luck.........

Cytogenetics involves the study of chromosomes, their structure, and abnormalities. This field focuses on analyzing and identifying chromosomal abnormalities and genetic fnf game disorders. Cytogenetic technologists use techniques such as karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and microarray analysis to examine chromosomes.
Through the enneagram test we unearth our inherent strengths and capabilities, bolstering our confidence and self-esteem.
Embracing our unique traits and embracing self-acceptance empowers us to embrace our imperfections and embrace our worthiness.
Elevating Quality of Life:
The primary goal of molecular diagnostics is to identify a chromosomal component that contributes to a problem, whereas the primary goal of cytogenetics is to discover new ways to prevent disorders in the future.
