How should an MBA Marketing person with 6 years experience in conventional marketing enter in digital marketing? I have seen that if I go for SEO interviews, they look at me strangely and ask what I am I doing here and why I am I leaving marketing? I feel very awkward as if I have entered in some wrong place. In which aspect of online marketing should a person of MBA caliber fit into? SEO / Search engine marketing / Social media marketing? Dear Aspirant,
The reaction of the interviewers is right.
For SEO position, master knowledge of Marketing is not required. Definitely, SEO is a technique of marketing and not core Marketing.
You may be of help in Strategy for Digital Marketing, Business Development through online media.
SEO is technical, whereas Marketing is not.
Best wishes
Hi Nilesh,
Till now even I did not know this fact unless and until you posted it here that we do not need actual marketing knowledge when it comes to online marketing.
I do agree with the counselor above, that SEO is technical, whereas Marketing is not.
Thus interviewers find you to be over qualified, i.e, the MBA degree or under qualified, i.e, your knowledge regarding online marketing process.
So before you apply for the SEO position, get updated with knowledge regarding animations, web designing, coral draw and software programming.
Hope this helps.
Wish you good luck...........
