Criminal Investigation Deprtment is a special wing that investigates special cases entrusted by the Government and Director General of Police and is a special wing under the Government of India.There are different ranks and postions offered in the CID like

1. Additional General Director Of Police (ADGP)

2.Inspector General of Police (IGP)

3.DIG

4.SP

5.DSP

6.Inspector

7.Superintendent

8.Sub Inspector

9.Asst. Sub Inspector

10.Constable

 

The level of entry for the CID posts are determined by the qualification that the person holds.The minimum qualification required is 12th. If one aspires to make a career as Sub.Inspector he/she should have completed A Graduation Degree.Graduation is an requirement for the Officer level and having a Criminology studied is an additional feature.

 

There are two ways to join CID one is by joining the State Police and than further by getting promotion one can join the CID and the other is by writing an Indian Police Service exam under UPSC and can join as ACP/ASP. For IPS exam one needs to have completed the Graduation Degree. The details of UPSC (IPS ) exams are as folows

The eligibility criteria for the exam is as follows-

  1. A candidate should have completed a Graduation Degree from a recognised University from any stream with minimum 55% or is in the last year of Graduation and is waiting for the result can also apply for the exam.
  2. Those who have completed 21 years of age are eligible to apply for the exam and the upper age limit is 32 years.The age relaxation is 5 years for the Reserved Candidates; for OBC it is 3 years .
  3. There are limits for the attempt of the exam- For General the attempts are 6; for OBC is  and for the reserved there are no limits for the attempt upto age limit.

1. Prelim Exam

2.Main Exam
