As such there is always a vacancy for new talents in your field. And Shipping industry is flourishing a lot.

I am sure as a Marine engineer, you are very well aware of your role in a shipping company.
You need to have strong qualities like ship building, maintenance and designing, maintenance of equipments, oiling of motors, inspections and repairs and maintenance.
As such you are not primary involved in this work, but you would be the supervisor or fourth engineer whereby sometimes you would have to get your hands and clothes soiled to check on the workers employed.
Do not wish to get into rank engineers at the first go, you would have to start at the base and then move up the ladder, by giving exams.
This was about in-shore jobs.Here please note there are no fixed timings, so be ready for a round the clock job.

But you too have an off-shore job.When the ships are at yard, again you play a similar role. Of course there would be a team, but definitely you too have a role to play.
But off shore promotion would purely be based on your hands on job and experience and your man management skill.

Apart from shipping industry, you also have opportunity in other industry like
  • oil and gas
  • petroleum industry
  • steel industry
  • power sector
  • manufacturing sector
  • consultancy.

Get yourself wellequipped.Do not say NO,and do not loose hope.In the meantime get yourself well trained in basic necessities like Computer courses mainly CAD/ CAM, communication skills, diving and swimming skills and the ability to foresee problems and being analytical to solve them.
