1M+ Test Taken
To become an Airline pilot in India one has to have the following requirements. First he should have a min qualification of being 12th pass with Maths and Physics as subjects. Then he should be medically fit. After this he need to do a Professional pilot course to do a Commercial Pilot License. This takes 2 years normally though some institutes would thell you that it can be done in 18 or 19 months. Tis requires you to fly 200hrs and also clear the Director general Civil Aviations exams on Air regulations, meteorology, navigation, Technical Specific and Technical General. Along with this you will need to clear the exam for radio telephony with the Ministry of Communications of the Govt of India. These exams are held every 3 years and the validity of the exams is 5 years. Having got the basic Commercial Pilot License then you are required to do multi engine flying and Instrument rating. These can be done within the 2 years itself and at many places as part of the 200hrs of flying. On completion of these you will get a license form Director general Civil Aviation and then you can apply for the airlines.
The time period till now is two and a half years. On joining an Airline you would be sent for a Type rating for the type of aircraft that the airline flies. This is normally a 45 day course. After this you would start as a copilot in the airline and start flying. You will then have to go through training as a line pilot over a period of time. Normally you would fly about 60 to 80 hrs per month in the initial few months. Once they are flying fully the maximum they can fly is 125 hrs per month or 1000 hrs per year. On completion of 1500h they can then apply for upgradition of Licence to Airline transport Pilot Licence and then move to become a captain. By 5 years they should be flying as a Captain but sometimes this depends upon the airline. In monetary terms - starting around 1 lakh they would go upto 3 lakhs salary per month after getting their Commercial Pilot License. If they spend 5 years in an airline then they would definitely be Captains and would be in a high salary bracket of at least 3 lakhs plus. Some airlines may have a minimum flying experience criteria for upgradation to captain.
