The role of a writer has changed quite a lot over the years as the technology has brought the world together and the reading habits of people all over the world have changed. There are quite a few major changes that have taken place in the roles of writers that are mentioned below.

The writing team has grown over the years in the publishing houses. Therefore the role of the writer has narrowed down to take care of the main writing and not much about the editing part of the content. The editing team often takes care of the grammar and other technical parts of the writing piece and therefore it has become more of a team work and not a lonely affair as it used to be earlier.

Writers these days have to do a lot of research to make the impression on their readers. These days readers are extremely aware about the facts. All the information is already there on the internet and therefore it saves the time for research to be done by a writer. But they need to be extremely cautious about all the facts and figures they are putting in to their work.

Writing in today's world is not only about writing a piece of article but also to effectively distributing it around. Although there are sales teams and distributors specifically for this purpose but if a writer himself or herself market their work well, then there are more chances of success. They have to build their network, reach out to more number of people and ensure that they keep in touch with the right people. Also the style of writing has changed due to globalization. The old classic literature has been replaced by simple one which could be understood by people from different parts of the world. English therefore has emerged as a strong language in this regard and has made its presence all over the world.

This is how the role of a writer has changed.
