Hi Sahil,

If you were interested in becoming commercial pilot then you should not have applied for the Engineering course, it is irrelevant to the pilot courses offered in all around the world. Commercial pilot is a good career option as airline sector in India is growing by the pace of 20 percent per year.
Before applying for the pilot course please remember that becoming commercial pilot is quite expensive. The entire process would cost you around Rs 10 to 15 Lakh. However the salary of pilots is good, it is not much of an issue for person who can afford it.

Eligibility criteria to become an commercial pilot:

  • You need to complete 10+2 with PCM as the subjects with minimum 50% of marks.
  • Age Limit for applying Commercial Pilot Licence is 18 to 30 years.

Physical Requirements needed:

  • You should be at least 5 feet tall.
  • 6/6 eyesight is required to become pilot. Wearing glasses is allowed for a pilot as long as your distance vision is correctable to 20/20 while near vision is correctable to 20/40 with glasses.
  • You should have good coordination between mind and limbs.
  • The candidate should be able to handle pressure situation.
You should not have fear of height.

You need to qualify some stages to get a commercial pilot license:

First: Student’s Pilot Licence can be obtain after completing 10th class. The age requirement to obtain licence is 16 years. A basic mathematic test needed to be clear which would include questions related to various aspects of aircrafts. You need to score at least 75 marks out of 100 marks written test in order to pass it.

Second: Private Pilot Licence where you would not only have to give written exams but would also be given training to fly the plane. You need to pass 40 hours of flying experience with instructor and 20 hours of solo flying experience in Private Pilot Licence. After that you need to pass the written test by the Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) in order to reach the third stage.

Third: Commercial Pilot Licence is the last stage. You will have to pass 250 hours of flying experience to get the Commercial Pilot Licence and apart from flying experience you would have to appear in written tests related to Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, and Air Navigation. This would be followed by medical test by DGCA after which you would get Commercial Pilot Licence.
