These days, it's possible to have cross disciplinary curriculum. Nobody asks for a gap period when you wish to sit for an entrance examination. If you are taking a conscious decision and you are convinced, just give it a go. For example, there is a course in IIT Kharagpur, for Medical doctors (MBBS) too. If you have any specific queries, get back to me.

You being a software engineer, you wish to do medical course? I am sure that there is something terribly wrong with you and that needs to be sorted out first.
Instead of the gap question, they will give a standing ovation to you for choosing medical field after software field
