Hey Dear,

Yes why not in fact you should go for a course like Masters of Business Management or MBA it is one of the most sought after courses that people do in today's time....

In fact it is one course that has maximum demand in the work industry and now a days almost all the students opt to do an MBA as it gives you an opportunity to get in to administrative jobs directly and even with a good and handsome salary. I am sure that one can definitely do an MBA after doing a graduation in Biotechnology. But remember dear that if you have decided to do an MBA just simply think what specialization you want to do and why?

Many a time we randomly decide on a career because we see our friends doing it or because there is scope in it or even because our elders want us to do that course and take that degree.

You decide why are you doing it and will it reap good benefits in future. Also if you are really interested in doing it or not.

If you feel you are interested and want to build a career in management then go for doing an MBA but if you think that you are interested in Biotechnology and would want to stick to the profession then go for Masters in the same that is Biotechnology.

Also dear if you are really interested in doing an MBA first and then going for maters in biotechnology then also the option is pretty much open for you and you can any time do it.

The important criteria or the eligibility criteria for doing Masters in Biotechnology is only bachelors in the same. so you can anytime do it if you have a bachelors degree in biotechnology.

You can write back as well....

Best Wishes!

Hello

I am very pleased to answer your query and I can relate to your confusion very well and know why? I was too a BTech Biotechnology graduate a few years ago and I was very much in your situation whether to do a masters in biotechnology or instead study an MBA degree. In fact this sort of confusion is pretty common with most of the students, who fluctuate with their interest between technical subject and management subject. This clearly shows your love for a business and management degree like an MBA and at the same time you are also wondering if you still want to go into a masters in biotechnology. I did a basic degree in Biotechnology and then I was only interested in doing a Management degree. This made me clear that I want to do a Masters in Management and as I had a few years of work experience, I chose to do a MSc Management instead of an MBA degree. Now I am completely into Management line. I have three suggestions for you and feel free to pursue any of them that suits you.

1. Masters in Biotechnology: Ask these questions written below in yourself to understand if you want to study a masters degree in Biotechnology.
  • Do you like Biotechnology more than any other subject?
  • Do you want to study a higher degree in Biotechnology?
  • Do you want a career in Biotechnology?
If you say yes to all the three questions above, then you can study a masters degree in biotechnology. The good news for you is you can also do a MBA degree later in life after a Masters in biotechnology.
Advantage: You can later study an MBA degree after a Masters in Biotechnology too. In fact there is also a program known as MBA in Biotechnology which you can consider studying.

2. Masters in Management: Ask these questions to yourself if you want to know studying MBA is the right choice for you.
  • Do you like business and management?
  • Do you like being a Manager?
  • Do you don't want to study a science/ technical subject like biotechnology any more?
  • Do you don't have more than 2 years of work experience?
If you say yes to these three questions then you are right to study an MBA degree. If you dont want to study biotech any more and are very sure about it, then just jump into an MBA.
Advantage: As mentioned, you can study a MSc management degree and can work as Managers in biotech, pharma companies.
Disadvantage: If you choose to do a management degree, then later you may not be able to study Masters in Biotech in future. Very few private colleges accept management graduates for masters in biotech admission but most of the colleges wont.
3. Master of business administration MBA:
  • Do you have more than three years work experience?
  • Are you interested in studying a higher management degree?
If you say yes to these two questions then you are definitely eligible to study an MBA degree.
Advantage:You can study either an MBA general degree or also study an MBA in Biotechnology and work as managers in biotech, pharma companies.
Disadvantage:You cannot later study a Masters in Biotechnology, once you step into a MBA degree. Most colleges will question why you want to return to a science degree when you are already diverted into a management line.

If you like biotechnology, then a Masters in Biotechnology is very good for you. However, if you have no interest with Biotechnology, then a MSc Management or MBA is good. Good luck. My best wishes to you.

Dear Aspirant,

You are thinking of combining technical and management field in your career.

A field of Biotechnology which is of high technical nature, management is not a requirement in the industry for such candidates.

For a technical role like BioTechnology, management skills will be helpful only when you have gained at least 5 years of experience. Not every domain and industry requires MBA knowledge.

MBA is the only qualification after any under graduate course, is a great MYTH.

If you are inclined to be in the technical scientific field you should focus and concentrate on acquiring as much as technical knowledge and therefore I would suggest you to go for Masters in Science and gain advanced technical knowledge, due to which you will be able to earn more and also become stable.

Best wishes
