I have a very keen interest in investment banking. I am a 4th year law student pursuing my degree in christ university, Bangalore

I would like to know what are the best options available for me to set my career in investment banking. I would also like to know if I would need a minimum number of percentage in my graduation to take admission in a good college for investment banking studies.

Dear Aspirant,

Hope you know that your LLB knowledge and degree will go waste when you enter into the investment banking industry.

Ideal course for entering into the investment banking industry is the CFA course offered by CFA Institute, USA. www.cfainstitute.org

Apart from this, you may opt for MBA in Finance from Top 10 B-Schools in India. SP Jain Institute of Management Studies of Mumbai offers MBA in Investment Banking. ICFAI also offers short term courses in Investment Banking.

To be best sure of what suits you for your career, I would suggest you to undergo a psychometric test from CareerGuide.com which will help you understand yourself in respect of your strengths, weaknesses, emotional quotient, etc. and will exactly tell you which stream is good for you.

Best wishes,

Hi there,

Good to know your line of interests annd wish you good luck to complete your Graduation.

Since Investment banking has taken a rise, these days there are many institutes that offer this course.
Earlier an MBA in Finance was enough, but these days companies are looking out for thorough knowledge in Finances for this position.

Here is where I would request you to sit back and think. A self introspection is needed here. Investment banking is not related to only accounts or tally, which can be taught. In this field, a throrough knowledge of Finances is a must. You would have to knowledge in terms of Bonds, equity, fund raising, market shares and reading, etc. A complete knowledge of financial investment and brokers. Since this profile is mainly related to proper investments that can raise the share and market value of the company, keeping in mind the rules and regulations.

The reason I am talking about all thgis is, because your base is more related to LAW. Though you do cover Financial management and taxation, during this course, but they are just at the base level.

So in-case you are looking out for this career, then my request would be apart from the course, it would be advisable to get acquainted with equity research, debt market and financial resources in depth. There are short term courses related to it too.

Though a course on Investment banking will take care of the above Financial terms.

Check the following institutes for more information:

Wish you good luck

Hello

It is good to hear you have identified your interest in investment banking but to ensure if it is really right for you, I would recommend you to do a psychometric assessment from Mera career guide website. I am not sure why you would want to shift from law to investment banking. So this test will identify the skills and interests of yours and will recommend if investment banking is right for you and if you are on the right move.

To do investment careers, the first step is to have an MBA in Finance. You need to have a very good percentage in your undergraduate, preferably above 80%. Added to this, you also need to crack CAT exam with a top notch score. Together you are eligible to apply for top B schools in the country. Doing an MBA with Finance will lead you to careers in investment banking. Deloitte, PWC, Goldman Sachs, KPMG, E&Y, ICICI, Axis are some top companies into investment banking in India.

Try aiming for IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, ISB Hyderabad, IIM Indore, FMS Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur for a place in one of their business schools. Hope this helps. All the very best.
